Douglas Costa paced Bayern Munich past Stuttgart but he wasn't alone in turning in a splendid performance

Tip Of The Cap: Joshua Kimmich. The VfB Stuttgart academy product who got on Bayern's radar after a splendid two year loan spell at RB Leipzig is but one of the recent transfers this summer to pay immediate dividends. Playing in a holding/defensive midfield role, he was instrumental in Bayern's vicious counterattack in the first half completing 118 passes and going six for seven on passes longer than 30 yards. The trust that Pep Guardiola has put in this 20 year old is immense as evidenced by the fact that he led the team in touches and passes completing 93% of them.

Golf Clap: Kingsley Coman. If there was anyone on this game who deserved to get a goal but didn't, it's Kingsley Coman. The 19 year old loanee from Juventus once again went the full 90 minutes and played a wonderful game from start to finish. He had six passes that led to shots on goal, and led the team in dribbles showing an incredible amount of confidence in himself when he was on the ball. It's still hard to believe that a player so young has ingratiated himself so fully into one of the best teams in the world this quickly.

Standing Ovation: Thomas Muller. He had probably the most Thomas Muller game possible. The unpredictable Raumdeuter was credited with a goal and two assists and all three of those points were a result of his awareness on the pitch, the timing of his runs, and an under appreciated, sometimes awkward looking, skill with the ball at his feet. He was the first of manager Pep Guardiola's mercy subs in the 58th minute but that was more than enough time for him to leave his mark in this game.

Meister Of The Match: Douglas Costa. His speed, skill with the ball, shooting ability and deft touch on his passes gave Stuttgart fits for the 68 minutes he played after being mercifully subbed off. He is officially credited with a goal and an assist but he had a hand in the build up for all four goals Bayern scored today and several other chances that probably should have been converted. He had a game high seven passes that led to shots on goal and chipped in three successful crosses. He showed great chemistry with his fellow attackers, shifting from a central attacking role to the outside whenever he saw an advantageous run available. He's making the case for the best summer transfer in Europe this year, and from his interplay with the rest of his team, it's hard to imagine this is his first season at Bayern Munich.

Jersey Swap: Przemyslaw Tyton. The Grand Tyton was the reason this game didn't turn into an episode of BBQ Pitmasters. He made several diving saves on sure fire shots on goal and despite conceding four goals, he deserves some recognition. The goals that Bayern scored were more indicative of their skill than of any mistakes Tyton made. Put Manuel Neuer in that same position, and it's doubtful he would have done as well.

A great first half saw the Bavarians through to victory.

Bayern Munich will head into the international break on the back of a 4-0 thrashing of Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena on Saturday. They received goals from four different goalscorers on the day!

Bayern broke free on a counter in the 11th minute. Arturo Vidal intercepted a pass at the top of FCB's penalty and quickly found Joshua Kimmich. The young midfielder found Douglas Costa further up the field, and Bayern broke out on a 5-on-1 break. That's right, yes, a 5-on-1 break. Costa's cross to the middle of the penalty area was chested into the goal by Arjen Robben to give Bayern the 1-0 lead.

Seven minutes later, Bayern broke out again along the right hand side. While Robben and Robert Lewandowski were well offside, they did allow the ball to run through to Thomas Müller. The German international played the ball into the penalty area and Costa ran onto it, smashing it into the back of the net. Seventeen minutes gone and FC Bayern led 2-0.

Just after the half hour mark, it was Stuttgart rattling the crossbar. Florian Klein streaked down the right hand side and found Filip Kostic on the opposite side of the penalty area. The forward's shot crashed off the underside of the crossbar but didn't cross the line. Bayern managed to clear.

Having more fun on the counter, Bayern struck against in the 37th minute. Robben flicked the ball to Müller who crossed the ball hard into the middle of the penalty area. The pass left it to only Lewandowski to smash into the back of the net to make it 3-0.

Before Stuttgart accepted the fact that Bayern was now up by three, the lead was stretched to four. Kingsley Coman's shot was saved by Przemysław Tyton, but Lewandowski jumped onto the rebound and dropped it right back to Coman. He crossed the ball to the far post for Vidal, but he his header struck the crossbar. Luckily for FCB, Müller showed up at the right place at the right time and headed the ball into the back of the net for the 4-0 advantage.

Stuttgart opened the second half with a bang nabbing a goal. However, the assistant referee incorrectly ruled it back for offside, keeping them off the scoresheet.

Bayern pressed for more goals throughout the second half but were unable to find it. Most of the attacks died on the feet of Robben, who just couldn't put together the final touches

The win moves Bayern eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table. Second place Borussia Dortmund will face archrival Schalke in the Revierderby on Sunday.

Finally!

Great news, everyone! During Bayern Munich's match against Stuttgart, Holger Badstuber returned to the field! Badstuber came on just before the hour mark as a second half substitute for Thomas Müller and was serenaded by the FC Bayern supporters who were extremely happy to see his return to action.

Badstuber has been out since the spring when he suffered a thigh injury against FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League. He was out for 200 days, adding up to 935 missed due to injury in his career! (Thanks Cristian Nyari for that.) Perennially injured, nothing would make Bayern happier than a healthy Badstuber eschewing his injurious past.

If he and his fellow centerback Medhi Benatia manage to remain healthy, Bayern will have four players capable of playing centerback at an elite level. Jerome Boateng is among the world's best, and Javi Martinez has proven that he's able to slot in at centerback and keep the team moving forward.

Welcome back, Holger!

Sometimes Bayern Munich just flat out score because their opponent refuses to defend

Thomas Müller and Arjen Robben have been eating the Stuttgart defense alive all game and this attack was just another in a long line of great attacks generated by their work. And Douglas Costa got to reap the rewards.

It's basically another counterattack against a Stuttgart defense that has been so dead set on playing a high line that Bayern Munich are just pressing and passing their way through with ease. Look, I get the desire form Stuttgart to come to the Allianz Arena and make this game competitive, but what the did in the sequence leading up to this goal borders on stupidity.

The fact that Bayern Munich could generate a turnover and counter, FROM WITHIN the Stuttgart half, and the subsequent space left completely empty at the back post on this play for Douglas Costa was just laughable.

And if you give Bayern Munich an inch, let alone a mile, they will score.

A goal bordering on ludicrous

Bayern Munich simply don't do thing the easy way. From their personnel movement to their formation, everything is complex yet brilliant. All of which means, that when we see them execute a flawless counterattack we get to sit back and marvel at those moments when the simplicity of their play shows just how head and shoulders above everyone else they are.

But even this time, it's hard to separate the simplicity of this counterattack with the fact that BAYERN MUNICH ARE COUNTERATTACKING WITH 5 PLAYERS!!! That's half the outfield and it's utterly ludicrous that they can do this. From a game standpoint, Stuttgart certainly didn't do themselves any favors considering it was one of the worst corners in recent memory but sometimes you just have to sit back and admire the beauty of Bayern Munich.

Also, an Arjen Robben stomach goal. Just for good measure.

Stuttgart have said they're not coming to the Allianz Arena to bunker. What will Bayern Munich be able to do?

When you destroy a team the quality of Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League, what do you do for the follow-up? For Bayern Munich, a match at the Allianz Arena against VfB Stuttgart is in the cards. Can the Bavarians make it two wins in a row?

Stuttgart coach Alexander Zorniger has stated that we won't see a repeat of last weekend when Bayern took on Eintracht Frankfurt. The visitors plan to try and play against FC Bayern instead of bunkering in the defensive third and hoping for a result. However, with Daniel Ginczek and Martin Harnik both out with injuries, the match is going to definitely be a tough one to take.

After returning to the 18 man squad against Arsenal, it's very likely that Holger Badstuber finally sees action on the field against Stuttgart. When healthy and in-form, Badstuber is the logical choice to partner Jerome Boateng at centerback. He has remarkable composure on the ball, and his left foot perfectly compliments Boateng.
