#Müllered

Thomas Müller played in the more advanced role in the center attacking midfield against Hamburg with Arturo Vidal behind him. But, with the opponent being the obviously overmatched Hamburg, Müller's objective was to do what he does best: find space and use it.

His first goal on the day was just a typical smashing header. After Douglas Costa showed off his speed on the sideline, Müller charged into the open space in front of Hamburg centerback Johan Djourou and met the cross with his head.

"That was a super team performance," Müller said. "Once again, we've proved we're still hungry despite all our success in recent years, and we don't ease off even when we're 3-0 up. We want to maintain this mentality."

The second goal was a thing of beauty. After Robert Lewandowski abused Djourou again out wide, he split the remaining HSV defense and played the ball into space. (There's that word again.) Der Raumdeuter took a touch to gracefully round the goalkeeper and passed the ball into the back of the net.

Müller's continued ability to basically do anything and everything on the football pitch will never cease to be amazing. He's not going anywhere. He is Bayern Munich.

"We got exactly what we wanted: we wanted to lay down a marker today and show that we’re ready. It wasn’t easy because they played really defensively but scoring five goals at the end of the day is always good. On a personal level I’m just really happy to be back out on the pitch. I need to get back into my rhythm and to do that I just need games. We had to be patient on the one hand today, but on the other we needed to attack aggressively too and try to find the gaps."

"The competition for places is fierce. All the players have to put in a performance in every match, otherwise it’s going to be difficult for them to make the starting XI or even the squad. We also have a head coach who gets the best out of us - it’s a good combination."

"It was hard work in the first half because Hamburg played with six at the back. We switched things around a bit at half-time and we improved after that. We had a few problems keeping the pace of the game high. I’m pleased with the debuts for Douglas Costa and Arturo Vidal. They have quality and experience and will bring a lot to Bayern Munich. It was the first match and I’m satisfied with the performance."

Speed kills.

When it was first revealed that Douglas Costa would be joining Bayern Munich for around €35 million, there was a lot of division in the FCB community. Many thought that was too high a price. Some were unhappy that Bayern would sign a player that had some "dirty fouls" against FCB in previous games. A few were even against Bayern signing another small winger.

Costa has set out to prove he belongs at FC Bayern, and in his first Bundesliga match, he left no mistake. Reminiscent of the speed and craftiness that Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben brought to the club when signed from Marseille and Real Madrid, Costa brings a much needed dynamism back to Bayern's wing play.

And, it seems that he's fitting in quite well. "I like being in Germany. All my team-mates have treated me very well, so I have no complaints. I feel good in both positions [on the left and the right]."

He can also strike and impressive ball.

Lewandowski's goal really broke the game open.

For a player that scored 24 goals in all competitions in his first season with a new club, Robert Lewandowski sure took a lot of heat for not scoring more. As the injuries to Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery took two of Bayern's biggest weapons out of the picture, all of the pressure in the world was hoisted upon Lewandowski to carry an injury-plagued Bayern team to glory.

Things would be different in Friday's opener against Hamburg, right? The first forty five minutes weren't friendly to Lewa. He struggled to find space as Hamburg packed six, seven, eight men on top of their own penalty area. Finally, the break through came in the second half after a weak attempted clearing header by Hamburg.

"It was the first match and we've won it, which is what matters," Lewandowski said. "The first half wasn't so good, but after going 2-0 up it was clear we could score more goals. It wasn't easy and we had to be patient."

The Polish striker has two goals in two matches for FC Bayern now. If Douglas Costa continues his spectacular play out wide, Lewandowski will get his opportunities to bang in goals, and 30+ goals is definitely not out of the question.
