Douglas Costa was an animal but Joshua Kimmich was the rock on which Bayern built their control of this match

Tip Of The Cap: Robert Lewandowski. Robert Lewandowski never switched off and was in the right place at the right time to snag two relatively easy goals. His hold up play and work in possession were good but other than that the Polish international had a rough day as the Hoffenheim centerbacks had his number the minute he stepped inside the penalty box.

Golf Clap: Holger Badstuber. As the lone defender and the fulcrum around which the entire Bayern Munich team swung, Holger Badstuber was instrumental in controlling the space and tempo of the match. It was a quiet, composed, and reserved performance and just the type Bayern Munich needed.

Standing Ovation: Douglas Costa. With 1 assist, 17 crosses, and the burned out husk of Pavel Kardacek to take home as a trophy, Douglas Costa was a raging force on the left side of attacking midfield for Bayern. After his relatively quiet outing against Hamburg last week it was great to see Costa get back to trashing defenses in the way that earned him many plaudits during the Hinrunde.

Meister Of The Match: Joshua Kimmich. Kimmich may not have got on the scoresheet in any way but the young midfielder was a defensive and possession oriented stud on the right side of the field. His positioning, passing and read of the match gave Bayern Munich a strong stabilizing influence in a match where they fielded a single true defender.

Jersey Swap: Oliver Baumann. Oliver Baumann made some good saves had solid positioning and wasn't a waste of space like most of Hoffenheim. So, yeah for Oliver Baumann.

Bayern Munich thwarted Hoffenheim's defensive efforts with offensive teamwork, and stifled Hoffenheim's anemic offense with a makeshift but effective back three.

1. Team CoCo is a work in progress

In Sunday's match, Kingsley Coman and Douglas Costa paired up on the left side of the pitch. With their amazing pace, the interplay between Coman and Costa can be breath-taking, when it happens. The duo had some phenomenally fast give-and-go plays in the opening minutes of the game, but Hoffenheim's defense soon managed to stifle their ability to work together. Among the attacking players today, Coman was the odd man out, and he was replaced by Thiago in the second half. With a shot on goal and an assist, Costa, in contrast, was a constant threat to Hoffenheim on the left.

2. Robben is back!

Arjen Robben put in an excellent game and looks like himself again, playing the full 90 minutes. His return to form was evident from the opening minutes of the game, blasting two very dangerous shots from distance just over Hoffenheim's goal. A classic Robben left-footed shot arching toward the far post of the goal in the 88th minute went just wide. Robben also played the perfect counterpart to Costa in feeding the ball to teammates, each of them logging 60 passes.

3. If you find Lewandowski, he will find a way to score

Robert Lewandowski barely got into the game in the first half-hour, with most of the attacks coming on the wings, especially through Arjen Robben. Lewandowski would announce his arrival on the scene, though, with a goal off a fantastic cross from Douglas Costa. Once the ball began bouncing his way from better crosses, Lewandowski remained a constant threat. He caught a cross from Robben in the 46th, quickly passed it back to Alonso at the edge of the penalty area, but Alonso's shot went just over the goal. Lewandowski had another near miss in the 58th, shooting the ball wide with his shin off a cross from Thomas Müller. Finally, in the 64th minute, a brilliant assist from Philipp Lahm in the penalty area allowed Lewandowski to lob the ball over Baumann and into the net. It is his 19th goal this season - one behind Dortmund's Aubameyang and one more than Hoffenheim have scored as a team.

4. Defense with no margin for error

Bayern fielded a makeshift defense centered around Holger Badstuber, with David Alaba on the left and Joshua Kimmich on the right. Xabi Alonso played centrally just ahead of them, dropping back as necessary, while Alaba frequently moved far up the left side, playing partly as a midfielder. The scheme worked against Hoffenheim's anemic offense, but the varying three-man back line around Badstuber left little room for error and allowed Hoffenheim to break through and shoot on goal twice. The worst lapse came in the 41st minute: as Badstuber inexplicably stood far up the pitch with Robben lingering back behind him, Hoffenheim's Hamad found Kramaric already past Badstuber. Kramaric then outmaneuvered Alonso in a lopsided one-on-one to shoot at close range. Neuer fortunately managed to punch the ball away, but against a better offense, such mistakes will prove costly.

5. Kimmich solid at right-back

Kimmich stepped up today and played an outstanding game at right-back, enabling Philipp Lahm to take a central role in the midfield (which bore fruit in the form of his first assist of the season). Kimmich quietly logged 115 touches, second only to David Alaba (132), and made 112 passes with 95 percent accuracy (only Alaba had more, 119 at 94 percent accuracy). The diminutive defender (only 5'8") won as many aerials as Holger Badstuber (3), and had one more defensive aerial (4). Kimmich's play was exactly what Bayern needed from him.

Robert Lewandowski's 18th and 19th goals of the season saw Bayern down Hoffenheim easily

When first meets second-to-last, you know that Bayern Munich are likely going to win. Not only did they comprehensively win behind a Robert Lewandowski brace, they dominated the entire game from start to finish with guile, effort, and flawless passing.

With Javi Martinez's injury news this morning, Bayern Munich came into this match with a single functional centerback. For a side that's struggled against the counterattack, it was always going to how they dealt with this issue with just Holger Badstuber manning the backline. The answer to that question was Joshua Kimmich who announced himself with a masterclass performance, playing solid aggressive defense and a passing acument and decision making that demonstrate exactly why Micheal Rechke was so high on him when they nabbed him from RB Leipzig.

On the other side of the pitch, it was a slaughter as a five-man Bayern Munich attack hammered away at a Hoffenheim midfield that looked bereft of the ability to play defense. Time and again, Arjen Robben, Thomas Müller, and Douglas Costa beat the Hoffenheim backline en route to lodging 29 shots. Only some woeful finishing and the adept positioning of Oliver Baumann kept Bayern from scoring more.

Bayern started the scoring in the 31st minute with Douglas Costa who took a two-step burst, burned Pavel Kadaerabek, and dropped a pin point cross across the box that Robert Lewandowski tapped in. It was a return to a goal we've seen countless times by Franck Ribery and a move that's netted Douglas Costa many assists so far this season.

With the match completely under their control, it was only a matter of time before they added to their tally. Robert Lewandowski doubled his scoring tally for the day in the 63rd minute running off the back side of the Hoffenheim defense following a penetrating dribble by Philipp Lahm, before calmly chipping the ball over the onrushing Baumann.

Bayern could have easily added more such was their dominance, but Pep Guardiola opted to remove his potent attacking threats and shore up midfield with the introductions of Thiago and Arturo Vidal as Bayern strangled the life out of Hoffenheim's midfield with possession and bodies.

On a day when the looming question was defense, Bayern Munich didn't even need one to play the game.

Bayern step back into Bundesliga action on Sunday with Hoffenheim visiting the Allianz Arena.

Today is going to be a great day, because Bayern Munich take the field for another match. The Bundesliga returns to the Allianz Arena after the winter break with Hoffenheim visiting for the 500th match in the beautiful facility.

The last time FCB and Hoffenheim took the field, Kevin Volland intercepted a backpass by David Alaba scored on Manuel Neuer within 10 seconds. If there's one thing that can be guaranteed before Sunday's match, it's that Bayern won't concede a faster goal than they did on that day.

With Jerome Boateng on the sidelines, options abound for Pep Guardiola. Juan Bernat could slide in at left back with David Alaba finding himself in the middle of the defense. Javi Martinez could step into the void at centerback. Or, if Guardiola is feeling froggy, he could drop Xabi Alonso to centerback and throw Arturo Vidal or Joshua Kimmich in midfield.

While the injuries mount (Yet, it seems that many others are returning.), more pressure continues to pile on Guardiola and the players. Will they be able to continue to carry the expectations hoisted upon their backs by supporters?

FC Bayern will be confident. The Bavarians have never lost a match to Hoffenheim.

We listen in on and pick out the important stuff from Pep Guardiola's press conference before every game, be it Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, or UEFA Champions League.

Although they showed some winter rust, Bayern Munich dominated the game against Hamburg last Friday, and deservedly won the game. The only, but very major, negative from the game was the loss of Jerome Boateng to a muscular injury. Not surprisingly, the press wanted to know how the coach would compensate for the absence of their defensive leader. But, even more than that, everyone wanted to talk about a certain small, subterranean mammal.

Pep Guardiola sat down for the customary press conference with the sports media representatives.

FC Bayern Press Conference, January 29th, 2016

Here are the highlights of today's questions and answers (my interjections in italics):

On any concerns before the game against Hoffenheim - We're playing against Hoffenheim, one of the best teams in terms of scoring chances every game (which, if true, is surprising, as they only score an average of one goal per game). We practiced well this week, and I hope we can show a good performance, have a good game for our fans, and have a good 90 minutes.

On the news that an unnamed Bayern player told the media that Pep is unhappy with some players attitude and conditioning - (The speculations have been rampant in the press, after a kicker article quoted an anonymous player complaining about the mood of the team) Yes, I read about it. What's the problem? (Pep is not playing along).

On whether he is unhappy with the team - In my first year here, and my second year, after the winter break, it happens that some players come back with one or two kilograms too many. We were in Qatar, were able to practice perfectly. Most of the players were at an ideal weight, one or two players (rumored to be Arturo Vidal and Franck Ribery) were a little heavy. But we have a consultant, we talk about it, deal with it. All the coaches in the world try to control the weight, because we don't want players to get injured. Sometimes we control it with the team, sometimes individually. But that doesn't mean I'm unhappy with my players. You can't win titles in the last three years, having only one loss in the last three Hinrunden, if the players aren't professional about it.

Second topic, emails. (it was reported that Bayern players received an email this week, stating that they have to ask for permission to go on a vacation during their time off during the season) The decision was made, mostly by Matthias Sammer, and he discussed it with me and the captain, Philipp Lahm, that during the weeks with midweek games, it's not good to fly off to Berlin or wherever on days off. Those days are for regeneration, and that needs to be done here. And we've informed the players about this through an email. They get two or three emails a week, so my question is: What's the problem?

On having a "mole" in the team - That happened in my first year at Bayern. I know that after meetings with my players, sometimes I will read about it the next day in the media. I noticed that in the first year. I tried to stop it, but figured it was impossible, so why fight it? If the players or the staff want to talk about it, it's not a problem, I can live with it (anyone who believes that, please private message me, I have some beautiful swamp land to sell you). Everything I do, is always what's best for the players. There is no other reason. Sometimes I'm right, sometimes I make a big mistake, but the players know that. Whether it's in a team meeting, or individual, it's always what is best for my players, because I love working with them, I want them to be healthy and happy. That's my goal.

On whether it's possible that Pep is too strict and exerting too much pressure on the players - I need the pressure. That's my job, we have to win. From the first day to the last day, I am always here, to fight, to support my team, and to figure out what's best for them. After winning all the titles in four years, winning it again is very hard. We need a lot of concentration. We have an eight point lead on Dortmund, and you know what I think of them. We have a 25-point lead on Wolfsburg (actually 23), 23 points on Schalke (actually 22), 21 points on Leverkusen (he finally got one right). We did a very good job, guys. In the group phase [of the Champions League], we had the best result in Bayern history, and we're still in the [DFB] Pokal. People are expecting a good performance in the CL, but so far, so good. It's impossible to get these results in the last three years if the mood in the team isn't good. If the mood is bad, you can't win.

On how Pep would describe the relationship, coach to medical staff - Better than ever (the reporter seems surprised, thinks he didn't hear Pep correctly, asks again). Yes, better than ever. I'm the kind of person who lets the doctors and the physiotherapists do their job. They are professional in their subject, I know absolutely nothing about the medical field, and I have a lot of confidence in Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt. He did everything he could with the players. It's the same situation with Volker (Braun, the current team doctor) and the same with the physios. I've only asked them to get the players back as soon as possible, please. They still go to Müller-Wohlfahrt, to get injections or whatever, they have confidence in him, and I want what's best for my players. Jerome Boateng, before his injury, visited Müller-Wohlfahrt a few times. Not a problem for me.

On consulting with medical staff on a player's availability - (A not very subtle reference to Franck Ribery, who was hurt in his first start after a long injury, with rumors going around that Pep ignored doctor's advice that it was too early) Of course, I talk to them, I want to get their opinion. A muscular issue is different than an ankle injury, where they might be able to play with a good taping. But a muscular injury, like Douglas Costa had before the winter break, that was a big risk. We could have played him against Hannover, but there was too much risk. We let him rest over winter break, and he came back afterwards. Of course, I talk to Braun, and the physios, about the players' situations.

On how hard it is to replace Jerome Boateng - He can be replaced. Every player has a certain level and quality. Medhi Benatia and Javier Martinez have qualities that Boateng doesn't have. Of course, we will really miss Jerome, just like we missed Arjen and Franck for a year and a half, and Holger Badstuber for two years. Sure, we'll miss him, but we did everything we could with Jerome, we will have to do it with other players.

On who will spell Badstuber and Martinez, who are coming off long injuries and won't be able to play every three days - Medhi Benatia should be able to come back in a week to ten days. We have Rafinha, we might play with a three man backline, we have David Alaba, who can play the position. We have other alternatives.

On whether the "mole" might cause problems with the team's goals, and might cause unrest among the other players - No. I was new here, when I got here. After two months, I noticed that this is normal here (well, no, it isn't really), so I didn't fight it anymore. I can deal with this situation, that's our problem. I know what our job is like. Coaches today, here, in England, Italy, Spain have the same problem.

On how it (coaches dealing with the press) is different in Germany - Here? It's much more comfortable than in Spain. You guys are very courteous. In comparison to Spain, this is nothing.

On whether the mood in the team is bad, like the "mole" said - The mood is good. We can't play three Hinrunden with only one loss if the mood was bad. If a player doesn't play, sure, he's a little sad. But all the coaches in the world have the same problem, players that normally don't play, they're a little unhappy, but they train hard, because they want to play. But the mood is good. Really, really good. But, maybe the anonymous player or staff member can explain a little more.

On whether Mario Götze and Benatia are returning to team practice next week - I don't know. I think they'll join in a week, ten days, maybe two weeks, but I don't know for sure.

On which players were overweight after the winter break - That's our issue. That's a private matter, of course.

On why there are so many muscular injuries lately - Real Madrid have 16 players, Barcelona has 15. Normally, the big teams with a lot of history, playing a thousand million games (there it is again), only two or three weeks break in the summer, and when there is a break during the season, they play on their national teams. Here at Bayern Munich, and also in my time at Barcelona, we do absolutely everything for our players, we try to talk to them about how important proper nutrition and sleep is, practice and regeneration. And the players do all that, because they're professionals. If they're not professional, we would not be able to win a thousand million titles, that's impossible. Every three days, you have a game, but for some people, we're already German champions. For that we need players who are professional, and also, of course, doctors and physios, coaches, we do everything, absolutely everything to avoid injuries, but, it's football, and things happen.

On always seeming to lose an important player in the important part of the season - For Christmas I had a wish (that everyone stays healthy), that wasn't fulfilled. We will play this season with who we have, with eleven players.

On whether we will see a new tactical approach on Sunday - Maybe. The tactics depend on the quality of the players. Last season, in the important stretch, we didn't have any outside wings, so we had to play without them. I had to adapt to the players I had. Especially when you want to attack. If you just want to defend, that's not a problem.

Disclaimer - Due to the nature of having a coach whose native language is not German, the translation of the quotes is not exactly word for word, but includes some interpretation on the part of the author of this article, in order to more accurately portray what the coach is intending to say. There is some necessary guesswork involved.

How quickly Bayern Munich adjust could determine how well they stay afloat this season without a Boateng to guide them.

Bayern Munich's match against Hoffenheim will be the 500th match played within the walls of Allianz Arena. The defending Bundesliga champions know how to protect their house, but doing so may be a little tougher over the next few months.

Hoffenheim will be the first opponent Bayern will face without Jerome Boateng. Fortunately for the Rekordmeister, they are going up against one of the worst attacks in Germany, but that attack did only need nine seconds to open the scoring in the reverse fixture. Change is never easy, but Bayern still have a lot of experienced players who know the adjustments they need to make.

In a locker room that is reportedly coming apart, can Bayern get a good result to maintain their dominance in the Bundesliga? How the team adjusts will be worth a watch, even if this is a Sunday match between clubs with very different fortunes.

The Squad

How does Bayern deal with the loss of Boateng? That monumental question has a simple answer right now: Holger Badstuber. He is the only healthy defender left to quickly replace Boateng's shoes, an ironic situation made easier by his strong efforts off the bench since his return.

The solution to Boateng's loss is more complex than that of course. David Alaba and Philipp Lahm will probably have a bigger midfield presence to help with the buildup play, although Badstuber and Javi Martinez are no slouches when it comes to advancing the ball forward. Xabi Alonso's defensive presence also needs to be on point against a club who has scored against the run of play in recent weeks.

Though Boateng contributed a bit to the attack, Bayern should be ok going forward. Hoffenheim's inexperienced defense should fall easy pray to play-stretchers Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman, and Bayern's dynamic duo up top have the movement to maneuver the penalty area with ease. Thiago Alcantara may have a difficult time operating through Hoffenheim's decent defensive midfield, but if he is able to create space for himself, he may manufacture a chance or two for his clinical comrades.

Bayern's last match against Hoffenheim did not start off very well, but they controlled the match nonetheless and got the result they needed. Playing at home will shift the scales more in their favor, and they should not sink much without their Boateng.

Projected Lineup (4-4-2):

Robert Lewandowski – Thomas Müller

Douglas Costa – Thiago Alcantara – Xabi Alonso – Kingsley Coman

David Alaba – Holger Badstuber – Javi Martinez – Philipp Lahm

Manuel Neuer

Bench: Tom Starke, Juan Bernat, Sebastian Rode, Joshua Kimmich, Arturo Vidal, Arjen Robben

Out/Suspended: Sven Ulreich (ankle), Medhi Benatia (thigh), Jérôme Boateng (groin), Mario Götze (groin), Rafinha (knee), Franck Ribéry (calf)

The Opponent

No doubt, Hoffenheim are a shell of their former selves, stalled in their progression up the table with the loss of their best player, Roberto Firmino. A slow start cost Marcus Gisdol his job, and Huub Stevens's survival tactics have not advanced them out of danger quite yet.

Their predicament is strange considering the talent in the squad. Eduardo Vargas is one of Chile's best forwards, but he has not impacted Hoffenheim's attack the way Roberto Firmino did. Fabian Schär was a highly touted defender from Basel, but he has yet to establish himself in the Bundesliga. Kevin Volland and Sebastian Rudy are German internationals – deservedly so as the World Cup champions transition towards the next generation – but neither have been able to keep their Hoffenheim out of trouble.

Stevens has thus had to rely on Rudy and Tobias Strobl, both defensive players, to control the tempo of matches in midfield. The quality in attack is not high enough to keep up with opponents though, Stevens having to rely on wild cards like Jonathan Schmid and Jiloan Hamad. What Stevens does have in his back pocket is Nadiem Amiri, an 18-year-old adrenaline injection that can create chances quickly.

Hoffenheim have showed an ability to remain in matches, but has not shown an ability to win them under Stevens. An early momentum-shifting goal is what Hoffenheim may need again or else this match could run away from them quickly.

Projected Lineup (4-2-3-1):

Eduardo Vargas

Jonathan Schmid – Jiloan Hamad – Kevin Volland

Sebastian Rudy – Tobias Strobl

Jin-Su Kim – Fabian Schär – Niklas Süle – Pavel Kaderabek

Oliver Baumann

Bench: Jens Grahl, Ermin Bičakčić, Eugen Polanski, Mark Uth, Stefan Zuber, Nadiem Amiri, Andrej Kramarić

Out/Suspended: Kai Herding (knee), Pirmin Schwegler (thigh)

The Outcome

Anyone can guess what will happen when Bayern play a club in the relegation zone they have never lost to at home. This one may not be the grind other results have been in recent rounds, especially if Müller and Lewandowski can break free on their own. Hoffenheim showed a lot of resolve back in August, but that resolve may be fading with every point they drop. At the end of the day, Bayern are not going to lose such a milestone match for the Allianz Arena.

Projected Score: Bayern Munich (3-1) Hoffenheim

Though not the result to get them out of the relegation zone, Hoffenheim's draw against Bayer Leverkusen did just enough to give hope to a very relegation-vulnerable club.

Hoffenheim, surprisingly, have remained in the relegation zone of the Bundesliga table for most of the season. This is a club that finished eighth last season, two points behind Borussia Dortmund and the final Europa League spot.

Markus Gisdol, who signed a contract extension until 2018 last April, only lasted 10 match days, getting the sack after winning one of his first 10 Bundesliga games. Escape artist Huub Stevens, who helped Stuttgart avoid relegation last season, took the helm, with Hoffenheim lining up 28-year-old wonder-coach Julian Nagelsmann to handle the reins next season.

Hoffenheim had a pretty big adjustment to make, losing Roberto Firmino to Liverpool over the summer. Eduardo Vargas and Jonathan Schmid were brought in to replace Firmino, but Hoffenheim have not replicated the creative midfielder's production. – seven goals and 10 assists last season. Schmid has a decent four goals in 17 appearences, but Vargas has scored just once and has two assists in 14 games. Even worse? Anthony Modeste – sold in the summer to Köln – has emerged as one of the surprise goalscorers of the Bundesliga. Hoffenheim are the lowest scoring team in the Bundesliga through eighteen rounds, averaging just a solitary goal per game.

Stevens's switch to a more conservative system has not helped matters much either, Hoffenheim winning just once under the new coach's reign. Relegation is not much of an option for Hoffenheim, for a drop to the 2. Bundesliga would undermine the financial injections tech-mogul Dietmar Hopp has made into the club. Relegation may turn off some of the financial faucets, which could send this plastic club tumbling back down Germany's footballing tree.

Last Week's Bundesliga Result

Hoffenheim matched Europa-League-bound Bayer Leverkusen to a 1-1 draw to kick off their second half, a strong result for a team in the relegation zone. Hoffenheim were fortunate to get a point though, Leverkusen forcing the home side to absorb a tremendous amount of pressure.

Karim Bellarabi was very effective against Hoffenheim due to his ability to stay wide, create space for his strikers and take on Hoffenheim's full backs. Javier Hernandez and Stefan Kießling both spurned great opportunities, and Leverkusen's goal came after Omer Toprak, the eventual goalscorer, wasted a glorious opportunity not ten seconds previously.

Hoffenheim's Swedish winger Jiloan Hamad was opportunistic to slash a half-volley past Bernd Leno. Other than a sweet linkup between Hamad and Kevin Volland – one that should have ended in the Swede's second goal – Hoffenheim did not generate any real threat. This should have been a game that Leverkusen won comfortably.

What their result means for Bayern Munich

Bayern's chance conversion needs to be much better than it was against Hamburg. Bellarabi showed what a quality winger can do on the flank, which is great news for Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman. Tobias Strobl and Sebastian Rudy will need to outlet to the wings quickly when they win the ball in midfield. Volland being the primary target, using his powerful running and good technique to take advantage of a Bayern team without Jérôme Boateng. If Bayern manage to control the match like they did after their quick 0-1 hole in the reverse fixture, they should be able to manage another painless three points.

This season's FC Bayern Munich team is trying to reach the record for goals scored in a Bundesliga season, held by none other than ... the 1971-72 FC Bayern squad. Can the current guys reach 101? We compare the two teams by matchday.

Bayern Munich has a chance to equal or surpass the Bundesliga record for the most goals scored in a season, which currently stands (and has stood for over 40 years) at 101 goals scored, and they're well on their way.

Who are they chasing? None other than the 1971-72 Bayern team, with the likes of Franz Beckenbauer, Uli Hoeneß, Sepp Maier, and, most importantly, Gerd Müller, who would tally 40 times that season, gracing the roster.

Current count

After matchday 18 of the current season, Bayern stand at 48 goals scored, giving them an average of about 2.67 goals per game, which puts them on pace for 91 goals.

Up this week

The rust from the month-long winter break showed a little in the Rückrunde opener in Hamburg, but Bayern came away with a deserved win, after dominating most of the game.

Next up is TSG Hoffenheim, who will visit Munich on Sunday. The little overachieving club from the tiny town of just over 3000 people is struggling this season, and finds itself in 17th place, and fighting for its Bundesliga survival. Although they managed to earn a draw at home against Bayer Leverkusen this week, and had a respectable 1-2 loss at home to Bayern on matchday 2, playing the league leaders at the Allianz Arena is a completely different story.

Goals Scored

Number of games remaining: 16

2015-16 - 48 goals

1971-72 - 48 goals

Pace: This season's FC Bayern is even with the 1971/72 team.

Matchday 19, 2015-16

Opponent: TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

Goals Allowed: 26

Result: TBD

Matchday 19, 1971-72

Opponent: Hertha Berlin

Goals Allowed: 27

Result: 1-0 win, Home

The record holders from 43 years ago hosted 6th place Hertha Berlin. After a scoreless first half, forward Edgar Schneider, who came on at halftime as a substitute, would score the game's lone goal in the 53rd minute to give Bayern a 1-0 win.
