After it looked almost certain that Medhi Benatia would be swapping his Bayern jersey for the black anwld white stripes of a Juventus jersey, things have taken a slight turn.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that AC Milan have entered the race for the Moroccan center-back and are pursuing him strongly. Though Bayern and Juventus have reportedly agreed on a €20 million fee for the 29-year-old, Milan are coming in hot, as they’re reportedly offering him a starting spot. Benatia spent most of his time at Bayern watching rather than playing, so a starting gig would seem to be very attractive to him.
Admittedly, I’m no expert when it comes to the Serie A, but from my limited knowledge it would seem like he’d have an easier time breaking into Milan’s first team than the Turin first team. Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli should be the starting center-backs when their season kicks off.
On the other hand, Milan really has no standout center-backs, and Benatia would probably be their top defender should he be able to stay healthy. Unfortunately, Milan aren't what they once were, and winning titles with Milan will prove much more difficult than winning them with Juventus.
