Manuel Neuer might be the first casualty of Pep Guardiola's move to Manchester City. The Mirror reports today that Manchester City are set on acquiring a sweeper keeper with the Blues having having their eye set on the biggest prize in world football
That report details that City have already discussed a massive wage increase with Neuer that would see him make around 20 million euros (£300,000/week) in annual salary. The Mirror further notes that no discussions have taken place with Bayern Munich yet and that City would gladly move for another sweeper keeper if Neuer is deemed not available.
This really seems more like Manchester City doing their due diligence than firm and concrete interest in Manuel Neuer at this point. Pep Guardiola's much publicized move to Manchester this summer is not a secret nor is his unabashed love of sweeper keepers.
The big question on everyone's mind the last three months -- and especially the minds of the transfer rumor mill writers --- was which Bayern Munich players Guardiola was going to take with him. If City can get Bayern's biggest jewel and the undisputed best goalkeeper on this planet, you can bet they will take it. The only question is, is Manuel Neuer as untouchable as Thomas Müller to Bayern Munich?
