Everyone always loves the next big thing and Croatian 17-year-old Josip Brekalo is this week's next big thing in the world of Bayern Munich. The young striker is reportedly set to join the club this summer.
24 Sata in Croatia reports that Bayern Munich have been courting Brekalo for two years and that the Croatian wunderkind is now finally set to sign for the Bavarians. Team officials were recently in the Croatian capital of Zagreb where Brekalo plays for Dinamo Zagreb II.
As 24 Sata is a Croatian daily tabloid, it's likely prudent to exercise caution that this is a done deal until we hear official confirmation from the clubs, especially as it involves such a young player. Whether Bayern Munich is his final destination is open to interpretation however on the Zagreb end things it is less murky as they issued a statement earlier this week that Brekalo would likely not be renewing his contract with the club.
Brekalo has made 12 appearances for Zagreb II this season to go along with three senior team appearances, scoring three goals including one in Dinamo Zagreb's Youth Champions League win over Bayern Munich in September. Brekalo has also featured 25 times for the Croatian U17's notching nine goals in that time.
