After just one season at Bayern Munich, Pepe Reina will return to Napoli in the summer, according to a kicker. A report from Gianluca di Marzio suggested over the weekend suggested the goalkeeper already has an agreement with the Serie A side, and all that is left is an agreement between the two clubs.
Previous reports alleged Reina had already enrolled his children into schools in the Naples area. He made 43 appearances for Napoli while on loan from Liverpool in the 2013/14 season.
Reina supposedly wanted to stay in Napoli after his year on loan, but the Ciucciarelli could not provide Liverpool the €3 million they were looking for. Thus, Reina transferred to Bayern in the summer, becoming the backup goalkeeper for Manuel Neuer.
Reina became the first non-German goalkeeper to make an appearance for Bayern since Jean-Marie Pfaff in 1988. season in Munich was cut short after just three appearances with the club. He was sent off in Bayern's match against FC Augsburg for denying a goalscoring opportunity in the area. He was suspended for two matches after that, eliminating him for selection for Bayern's remaining games in the season.
No word on whether Bayern will sell their backup goalkeeper, but a fee in the range of €2 million is the figure some reports have tossed around.
