As you have probably read by now, Bastian Schweinsteiger has decided to hang up his boots and end his fantastic career. Since the news of Basti’s retirement, several of his former teammates from Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Germany have paid homage to the great.
Schweinsteiger’s Champions League winning teammate David Alaba tweeted out, “It was an honour to play, fight and win trophies with you.”

Other praises came from Thomas Muller who of course won both the Champions League and World Cup with Schweinsteiger.

Although Wayne Rooney wasn’t able to share the same success with Basti at Manchester United as some of his aforementioned teammates, he made sure to congratulate the soccer legend.

Also, even though their playing time never overlapped at Bayern Munich or for the German National Team, Germany/Bayern legend Lothar Matthäus sent his best regards as well. From one World Cup-winner to another!

Matthaus said it best, simple and sweet: “Fussballgott!” Bastian Schweinsteiger has certainly earned that title after his storied career: eight Bundesliga Championships, seven German Cup titles, Champions League and World Cup winner.
As news of Schweinsteiger’s retirement is still recent there are sure to be even more praises sung by former teammates and throughout the soccer world. Bavarian Football Works is sure to keep you posted!
