On the brink of a transfer to Manchester United, Bastian Schweinsteiger went to Twitter to release a thank you statement to his fans and to his teammates.

The 30-year-old also made a very personal video to publicly address to the fans and his colleagues in an unfiltered, genuine way:

"Hello lovely Bayern fans, hello lovely Südkurve München. I know that you were speculating for weeks over my career. I just wanted to thank you for the great time you always brought me, first at the Olympiastadion and then at the Allianz Arena. It was an absolutely great time, thank you. We experienced some great moments with 15 national titles and the fantastic triple and other highlights. We will always be connected with each other; I will always carry you in my heart.

"I also need to thank all the colleagues at the Säbener Straße; I thank you for all the great times with each other. I cannot say all the names because the list would be too long, but thank you for everything. We helped one another with everything, and I want to see you all again.

"I hope that the lovely fans understand me, the path I have chosen to take. I believe it will be a great challenge, and I am very excited for it. But of course I will never forget you, always have you in here (pats chest), and hopefully we'll see each other soon.

"Sincerely, Your Bastian"

Farewell, Sir Bastian. We will never forget you either.
