SC Paderborn 07 announced former Bayern Munich midfielder Stefan Effenberg as their manager on Monday.
"For a long time I thought about working as a manager," Effenberg told Paderborn's website. "Paderborn is a top outfit to get started in the profession, something my impressive carriers of my predecessors also showed. SCP demand a lot of quality in their roster, and from this we need to form a successful team as fast as possible."
Paderborn relieved Markus Gellhaus as manager after the club collected just seven points in their first ten matches. They are currently just above the relegation zone in the 2. Bundesliga after their relegation from the Bundesliga last season. Gellhaus had replaced André Breitenreiter, who took a job as FC Schalke 04's manager.
Though he is in Bayern Munich's All-Century team, Effenberg has no prior coaching experience. As a player, he won three Bundesliga titles with Bayern under Ottmar Hitzfeld, as well as a UEFA Champions League trophy.
