Bayern Munich confirmed that defender David Alaba suffered an ankle injury in Austria’s World Cup qualifying match against Georgia and will miss an unspecified amount of time.

Alaba was taken off around the 38th minute after a challenge with Georgia midfielder Valeri Qazaishvili. It was a tough challenge that ended with Alaba coming up clutching his left ankle.
An injury never comes at a good time, but coming right before Bayern resumes Bundesliga action and begins Champions League play against Anderlecht is the worst of timing. With backup left back Juan Bernat himself still recovering from a severe ankle injury, Alaba’s absence will could force Rafinha into the lineup opposite Joshua Kimmich.
