Against All Odds: Paris Saint-Germain makes longshot move in attempt to get Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich

Could Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich leave for PSG?

On Monday, we saw a truly bizarre rumor indicating Paris Saint-Germain was going to try to make any Bayern Munich interest in defender Nordi Mukiele turn into a swap deal that would involve Joshua Kimmich.

Just a year ago, that would have seem absurd, but 2024, well, it is wild.

According to L’Equipe (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), PSG is making the move to start negotiations to get Kimmich, in hopes of bringing him to France this month:

Despite the extreme difficulty of such a deal in January, Paris have decided to open negotiations for Kimmich. With his flexibility and leadership qualities, Kimmich is seen by PSG as the perfect addition to their squad.

As absurd as it might sound, PSG has lived through the “Thomas Tuchel Experience” and has a firm grasp on what happens when things go sour between the coach and a player. The relationship between Tuchel and Kimmich does not appear to be tight on the surface, though neither side has said anything publicly about the other.

However, with Tuchel publicly speaking about wanting a No. 6 earlier this season — and Kimmich offering a retort of “I am a No. 6” — it has become clear that not everything is smooth between the two.

Regardless, it is hard to think that the Germany international will move on this month.

Liverpool FC, Manchester City, Manchester United, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid have all been rumored to have interest in Kimmich.
