Transfer Watch: PSG wants to swap Nordi Mukiele for Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich

We do need defenders, but certainly not at the cost of Kimmich.

Bayern Munich has been heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain’s Nordi Mukiele and it is looking like a deal is still possible before the January transfer window closes. Thomas Tuchel is keen on bringing the former RB Leipzig man to Bayern under the impression that he could be used in both defense, and midfield when needed. Ideally, he would be a prime candidate for the right back spot, especially since Noussair Mazraoui will be away with Morocco for the African Cup of Nations.

PSG letting Mukiele join Bayern this winter is also contingent upon them finding a center back, and/or right back themselves, as they are in the market for both positions. The Ligue 1 giants are also considering what, exactly, their offer would be as they are interested in loaning him out to Bayern with the potential option to buy him on a permanent basis at the end of the loan spell.

In the latest twist of this transfer saga, PSG has fleeting hopes of being able to involve Joshua Kimmich in the deal for Mukiele. Per information from Loïc Tanzi of L’Equipe (via @iMiaSanMia), the Parisians have dreams of signing Kimmich and want to try to work him into the deal for Mukiele, knowing that the chances of that happening are incredibly slim.

As expected, Mukiele for Kimmich as a straight swap would never be acceptable, so PSG would be ready to offer the defender plus a lump sum transfer fee to try and sign Bayern’s No. 6.

Kimmich is approaching the final year of his contract at Bayern and he will, for the first time of his Bayern career, not be representing himself in new contract negotiations. Barcelona was also heavily interested in signing him, but it still remains highly unlikely that he would leave Bayern under any circumstances right now.

Tuchel is certainly in need of defenders this winter, but at what cost? Losing Kimmich should simply not be in the conversation for Bayern.
