Academy players defy curfew, get caught at Borussia Dortmund

Brunner is particularly frustrating... so talented and yet he gets himself in trouble so often.

Borussia Dortmund, just like Bayern Munich and every other Bundesliga team, is preparing for the start of the second half of the Bundesliga season, the Rückrunde and are in the midst of their winter training camp.

Unfortunately, not everyone is diligently working to get fit. According to a report from Sky Sport, academy talents Cole Campbell and Paris Brunner, both 17, ignored the curfew set by coach Edin Terzić on Saturday. It had been clearly discussed that they were supposed to be in their rooms by midnight, yet the two snuck out of their rooms and duly got caught by the coaching team.

Unfortunately for Brunner, this is not the first time he has been in serious trouble. Though the exact details on his transgression were never released, he got suspended by Dortmund last October. Just a few months later, the U-17 World Cup champion again finds himself in hot water. As of now, it is said that Brunner and Campbell will not face a suspension, but they might (and probably will) get dropped from first team training and not participate in the final friendly against Standard Liege.

This was Campbell’s first infringement, so he may get off a bit easier. But one must wonder what Brunner’s future looks like. He has been touted as one of Germany’s biggest talents and rightly so, but his future cannot be so bright if he continues to get himself in trouble like this. The 17-year-old is still young and mistakes come with that kind of inexperience. However, there were talks of him being sacked after the incident in October. What must Dortmund be thinking after this latest episode? Brunner needs to shape up or he may have to move on.
