According to a report from kicker journalist Georg Holzner (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich has only three players on its roster who will not be “questioned” and “reassessed” after this season.
That certainly sounds a little ominous, especially when considering that Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer, and Harry Kane are the three players who are shoe-ins to be with the team next season:
Apart from Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller and Harry Kane, every single player will be questioned and reassessed after the end of this season, including ‘prominent names’. Unpopular or surprising decisions in defense, midfield and on the wings are not ruled out.
Surely, some players will play their way into longer stays with the team and other players are too valuable at this stage to give up, but — if true — a leak like this would be a sly way for Bayern Munich to communicate to the public — and to the team — that things need to change moving forward.
The club is far from crisis mode, but criticism — both attributed to the coach and anonymous reports — has been flowing throughout the season. Maybe there is no validity to the report, but it is not unreasonable to think that there could be at least a few heavy-hitting changes during the summer.
