Bayern Munich center-back Matthijs de Ligt missed 11 games during the Hinrunde due to injury. Luckily he was able to return for Bayern’s final Bundesliga match day in 2023. With Kim Min-jae expected to be missing from the lineup for most of January (AFC Asian Cup), Thomas Tuchel will rely on de Ligt to return to the starting lineup immediately.

In anticipation of the requirement to play 90 minutes (which he only accomplished twice for Bayern this fall), Victor Catalina reported that De Ligt is putting in extra work during the team’s rest day.

Bayern received 22 full matches from de Ligt during the 2022/23 Hinrunde and will need a repeat performance this season in order to overcome Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, while also chasing the club’s seventh European title.
