Bayern Munich

FC Basel v FC Bayern München - Friendly Match Photo by Christian Kaspar-Bartke/Getty Images

A quick programming note...

There is no Die Folgen for the Bayern Munich vs. FC Basel friendly as there was no (legal) way to watch it aside of paying for a DAZN subscription in the United States (at least from what we could find). So, the author just listened to the Web Radio broadcast, which is not exactly a play-by-play type format.

Now, on to our normal Schmankerl business...

Gunners give up hopes of getting De Ligt in January (The Hard Tackle)

Arsenal FC has realized that it has no chance to get Matthijs de Ligt during the winter transfer window:

Arsenal have an interest in de Ligt, which emerged in the last few weeks as it became clear they will target a central defender in January. The idea of signing the Dutchman may have alerted some of their fans, and even dreaming of seeing the £265,000-a-week defender as part of their backline.

Yet, the chances of him leaving Bayern Munich in January are slim, considering he is considered an essential part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans. De Ligt might have played fewer minutes than expected, but that is mainly due to some fitness issues plaguing the defender since the season began.

Moreover, the Dutchman still has three years left on his deal at the Bundesliga club, with the wages also troubling for Arsenal. Hence, while the Gunners may bring someone to shore up the backline, their chances of signing the Dutchman are slim.

United prepping De Jong offer (El Nacional via 90Min.com)

Is Manchester United preparing to make a move for FC Barcelona’s Frenkie de Long? At least one report indicates that the Red Devils are looking to take advantage of Barca’s iffy finances:

Manchester United hope to take advantage of Barcelona’s financial issues with a £77.5m bid for Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who would rather stay at Camp Nou than move to Old Trafford.

Min-jae, Davies, Kane earn honor (@iMiaSanMia)

Bayern Munich players Harry Kane, Kim Min-jae, and Alphonso Davies were all named to IFFHS Men’s World Team for 2023:

Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Podcast: Season 3, Episode 26 (Bavarian Football Works)

Bayern Munich has returned to training, but somehow the transfer action has been hotter than what has been going on during the practice sessions.

Knowing that Bayern Munich is eager to spend some money and add a few players during this transfer window, the rumors are flowing. Let’s take a look at what we have on tap for this week’s episode:

  • Catching-up on some an older take to see how it is going.
  • A rundown of the rumor mill, including what we have heard about VfB Stuttgart’s Alexander Nübel and Serhou Guirassy, Chelsea FC’s Trevoh Chalobah, Fulham FC’s João Palhinha, and AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori.
  • The increasing likelihood that Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Frans Krätzig could leave on loan assignments.
  • Discussing the Bild report that Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Matthijs de Ligt and Alphonso Davies are being closely monitored and how that could mean bad things for their respective futures with the club.
  • Finally, we lighten it up with some thoughts on this season of Fargo and my progress working through the Marvel movies.

Bayern, Gunners, City all eyeing Pedri (Fichajes via 90Min.com)

Bayern Munich has long been rumored to be an admirer of FC Barcelona star Pedri. Now — at least per this report — Barca is not so sure that Pedri is a fit moving forward and Bayern, Arsenal FC, and Manchester City are willing to give the youngster a home:

Another Barcelona midfielder, 21-year-old Pedri, is a target for Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich. Barca are not convinced about his future at the club due to his lengthy injury issues.

Buli Team of the Season — so far (Bundelsiga.com via @iMiaSanMia)

Harry Kane, Leroy Sané, and Kim Min-jae were all voted on to the Bundesliga Team of the Season (so far) by fans:

NUFC could make play for Raphinha (Mundo Deportivo via 90Min.com)

Newcastle United might be re-sparking its interest in FC Barcelona attacker Raphinha:

Newcastle United have reignited their interest in Barcelona winger Raphinha amid reports manager Xavi has grown frustrated with the Brazil international.

Bavarian Podcast Works — Flagship Show: Season 6, Episode 25 (Bavarian Football Works)

Well, it is 2024 and we have the very first Bavarian Football Works podcast of the year for release!

On this episode, we have a lot to talk about (despite the Winterpause), so why waste any time in droning on about it...let’s just do it! Here is what we have on tap for this episode:

  • With a growing divide in the fanbase and a war brewing between the #TuchelOut vs. #TuchelTime segments of the crowd, we have identified three things that need to happen for Bayern Munich fans to fully get back on board with things. Can they do them? Or maybe the better question is will they do them?
  • We are also looking at the futures of Assessing the futures of Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sané, Alphonso Davies, Bouna Sarr, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, and Sven Ulreich — all players who have contracts expiring in 2024 or 2025. While Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer are in a bit of a different situation because they are knowingly working year-to-year, these other players all could be packing their bags this summer.
  • Plus, Chuck managed to piss off his wife with interesting pronunciations for Pennsylvania towns. (That’s a bonus!)
