Bayern Munich sporting director Christophe Freund is multi-tasking these days.

In between watching his team’s lackluster 1-1 draw with FC Basel, Freund is undoubtedly a working the phones in an attempt to help bolster the roster.

“It was an important test before the first game in the second half of the season. But we can certainly play better than we showed today. Some guys got their first minutes today and did quite well. They also did well in training, but they are still very young and haven’t played that much in senior football yet,” Freund told FCBayern.com (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “They bring potential, learn new things every day and we will see the rest in the future. When you see how Aleksandar Pavlović plays and what role he already has in the team, you see what potential there is here.”

While the game was at the forefront of everyone’s attention for at least the two hours that it was played, Freund is also heavily involved in trying to secure new players in the transfer market, which DAZN asked the sporting director about (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):

Christoph Freund on whether new signings have been discussed: “Yes of course, we sat together several times, otherwise we would be very, very late.”

On compensating for the absences of Mazraoui and Kim: “That’s why we’ve of course been in talks for a long time and have discussed some names over and over again. The question is always feasibility. Other clubs are struggling with similar issues. That’s why the question is always: What can really be implemented?”

On the right-back position: “We hope that Konni will train again next week, then he will be another option there. But of course, Josh has played the position before and he’s a flexible player. Generally, we plan on using him [Kimmich] in the midfield position.”

Freund hinted that deals could be done soon: “We are currently in the process of finalizing one or two names, one or two deals.”

One of those names is expected to be Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier. As expected, Freund played coy when asked about the versatile defender by DAZN (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

“I’ve heard about that too. I know the player but can’t say anything. We do not engage in speculation. It is a fact that we are in contact with some players and are having some discussions,” Freund said. “We haven’t set a deadline, the winter transfer window isn’t so easy. The sooner the better if we can get deals done. But it has to be right for all sides, that’s the most important thing.”
