Update — January 5th, 1:55PM EST: Plettenberg provides more detail on Bayern-Dier; Romano, Eccleshare also add information

Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg has checked back in and states that Bayern Munich and Eric Dier have reached a “total verbal agreement.” The only sticking point as of now per Plettenberg is Tottenham Hotspur agreeing to a transfer fee proposal from Bayern Munich:

❗️Excl. Details Eric #Dier: TOTAL VERBAL AGREEMENT between FC Bayern and Dier! The 29 y/o wants to join Bayern now!

➡️ Contract at least until 2025

➡️ Transfer fee: Less than €5m

Tuchel has spoken to Dier. They plan to use him as a center-back and in the defensive midfield.

Green light from @SpursOfficial. Everything is prepared. Bayern just needs to make the final decision for Dier. @SkySportDE

Update — January 5th, 8:40AM EST: Plettenberg provides more detail on Bayern-Dier; Romano, Eccleshare also add information

Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg checked back in with more information on Bayern Munich’s interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier. The 29-year-old’s ability to play center-back, right-back, and as a defensive midfielder is a massive part of why the club’s bosses think he would be a fit:

❗️FC Bayern bosses and Thomas Tuchel have discussed and analyzed Eric #Dier in the last days again ✔️

He is one of the most interesting candidates now as he can play all in all three positions.

➡️ Dier would like to join #FCBayern but a final decision has not yet been made. One to watch in the next days.

In addition, Fabrizio Romano has checked in with his information as well:

Meanwhile, Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic offered more insight:

Update — January 5th, 7:40AM EST: Plettenberg acknowledges report

Well, things really might be heating up per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg. However, nothing is official, nor confirmed just yet:

News Eric #Dier: Yes, he’s still on the list of FC Bayern and there is a verbal agreement in principle about a potential move now.

➡️ Talks and ideas about a permanent deal! But understand there is no final decision yet.

➡️ Bayern is exploring additional alternatives. However, Tuchel is putting pressure and aims for new signings as soon as possible.

Dier was already a topic in the summer as excl. revealed. The contact has never been lost.

❌ #Adarabioyo not a topic!

The final note from Plettenberg’s tweet was in reference to the report stating that Bayern Munich had interest in Fulham FC defender Tosin Adarabioyo:

According to a report from Football Insider, Bayern Munich has agreed to a deal with Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier:

Tottenham defender Eric Dier has agreed terms with Bayern Munich, sources have told Football Insider. The out-of-favour Spurs star, 29, is closing in on a sensational move to the German giants in which he will be reunited with former teammate and White Hart Lane legend Harry Kane. It is believed that Dier has made up his mind to join Bayern in a deal fully endorsed by Kane and it will go through if and when Tottenham complete a new defender signing.

Dier has been linked with the Bavarians at various points in recent months, but nothing as definitively stated as this report from Football Insider has been released.

Dier does fit the profile of what Bayern Munich wants for this transfer window in terms of his versatility and his experience. During his career, Dier has played 225 games at center-back, 144 as a defensive midfielder, 28 as a right-back, five as a left-back, and four in the central midfielder (No. 8).

Dier is also a friend of former Spurs star Harry Kane, who now owns the No. 9 position with Bayern Munich.

BFW Analysis

At this point, it is hard to verify just how real this might be. What we do know is that Bayern Munich has been linked to Dier in recent months and that he does fit the profile of what the team is looking to add this month.

As of now, though, we consider this a developing story until more sources chime in to corroborate — or deny — the report. Of course, nothing is ever real until the team issues a release detailing an official signing.

Stay tuned...
