Looks like Bayern Munich is heading into the January transfer window with one clear goal in mind: securing a new defender. And the German giants are reportedly all-in on one target — FC Barcelona man Ronald Araújo.
From Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, via @iMiaSanMia:
Ronald Araújo is still Bayern’s absolute desired target and remains a topic for the club. As of now, Bayern have no other top candidate for the position [@Plettigoal, @SkySportNews]
Plettenberg previously reported that Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel “wants [Araújo] urgently”, whether now or in the summer, but the Catalan club is said to be reluctant to sell.
The 24-year-old Uruguayan center-back has emerged as a major talent and should command a major transfer fee if he does move. Araújo’s contract at Barça runs through 2026, and Transfermarkt estimates his value at €70m.
Given Bayern’s immediate needs, though, the Bavarians may have to think fast should Araújo prove to be unavailable in January. The club has major departures in the defensive ranks to cover for AFCON and the Asian Cup: Kim Min-jae, Noussair Mazraoui, and Bouna Sarr.
The transfer window is already open and the clock is ticking...
