Here we go again.
Bayern have once again been linked to Chelsea FC’s Trevoh Chalobah, and in similar fashion to previous links, it seems to be a last-ditch effort should a primary center-back target fail to be acquired.
Sky Sport’s Florian Plettenburg (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) detailed the rumour in the tweet below.
Trevoh Chalobah is an option for Bayern again, although not a hot topic at the moment. The club is considering making another attempt for the English defender, which could be a 'last minute' loan offer at the end of January [@Plettigoal, @SkySportNews] pic.twitter.com/sf2gEejDTC— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) January 3, 2024
As far as backup options go, the Englishman is by no means bad.
At the age of 24, Chalobah has host of Premier League as well as Champions League experience. With the ability to play center-back, right-back, and defensive midfielder, he also happens to fit the profile of a “versatile” defender that Bayern are so eager to sign.
One should also remember that it was Thomas Tuchel who gave Chalobah his start at Chelsea. This means Tuchel trusts the young defender to step up at the highest level and should not be surplus to requirements.
Lastly, Chalobah coming in on loan as a stop gap certainly seems more viable than splashing big money in January (when transfer values are generally heightened) to bring in a defender who is not actually Bayern’s first option.
But what do you think? Is Chalobah a decent backup option for Bayern should they miss out on their primary targets?
