Bayern Munich poised to launch strong title defense

A relatively straight forward start to the year... Or so we hope.

Bayern Munich fans are surely chomping at the bit to see their boys back in action. But more importantly, fans will be keen to see if Die Rekordmeister have what it takes to defend their title against Xabi Alonso’s persistent Bayer Leverkusen.

The good news? The wait is almost over. Well, for seeing Bayern back in action at least.

The scheduling gods seem to have been kind. For January at least (just wait until you look at the start of February).

The warm up match against FC Basel will be crucial ahead of Bayern’s match up against Hoffenheim, which, according to the Bundesliga log, should be their toughest game of the month. Any leftover glühwein, lebküchen or knödel that needs to be shaken off post Christmas will have to be done against Basel.

Depending on how the Hoffenheim result swings, the training camp may come at a vital time. Should Bayern perform poorly, it will give Tuchel some extra time to tinker, hopefully making the adjustments that will see Bayern steam roll Werder Bremen, Union Berlin and Augsburg in the remainder of the month.

A strong January performance will also be of paramount importance, hopefully giving Die Roten some breathing room before taking on their ultimate bogey side, Borussia Mönchengladbach as well as Bayer Leverkusen in the start of February.

A bit of a challenge to start, some time to tinker and favourable remaining fixtures should provide the platform for Bayern to make a strong charge towards their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title.

Los geht’s!
