Former Bayern Munich player Xabi Alonso has completely transformed Bayer Leverkusen and has them sitting pretty at the summit of the Bundesliga. The 42-year-old Real Madrid and Liverpool legend was touted for the jobs at either one of his former clubs. However, Ancelotti has extended to 2026 and Jürgen Klopp isn’t going anywhere and while Thomas Tuchel’s record is respectable, his job is not entirely safe; you can read more about it in INNN’s post from last year.
Tz reports that Ottmar Hitzfeld, the legendary Bayern coach, thinks highly of Alonso and wants him to take the job. “How Xabi Alonso leads the team, what charisma he has,” Hitzfeld said. “He stays calm, he is a role model on the sidelines for many other coaches. He was a great midfielder himself and you can see that he transferred his philosophy to the team.”
If Bayern do not win the Bundesliga this season (which coincidentally might go to Leverkusen), then the efforts to sign Alonso will be intensified.
