Report: Manchester United eyeing Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting

According to a report from The Athletic (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Manchester United is considering taking a run at Bayern Munich backup striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

Choupo-Moting, a productive player for the Bavarians since signing with the club back in 2020, is likely going to find his role more and more diminished in the coming weeks, which could make him expendable — for the right price:

Manchester United might opt for a ‘low cost’ forward this month. In that bracket comes Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, mainly substitute at Bayern with Harry Kane leading the line, and United could be tempted to ask the question.

One potential hang-up in the deal is the strong focus on having depth that Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has maintained in recent months. While Choupo-Moting is not expected to have a huge role for the rest of the season, a departure would leave Mathys Tel as a primary option to spell Harry Kane at striker.

That might not be something that Tuchel is comfortable with. Would Bayern Munich take that risk for a few extra euros before Choupo-Moting’s deal expires this summer?
