After 12 goals and 10 assists in the 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign — including the title-clinching one on the last matchday — Jamal Musiala has had a quieter season by his own meteoric standards.
But the youngster, who has five goals and two assists through 11 league matches this season to date, took a step in the right direction with a nifty finish against Hoffenheim on Friday. Musiala fired past Oliver Baumann from a tight angle to open the scoring as the Bavarians ran away with it, 3-0. He added the second himself, naturally: a tap-in to finish a move he had started, courtesy of a smart pull-back by Leroy Sané.
Musiala is just getting revved up. More goals on order in the Rückrunde? That’s definitely on his mind.
“As many as possible!” Musiala declared after the match, asked about his goals target this year (via Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau). “I’m training a lot on my finishing because I know that I have to make better use of my chances. Today was good, I have to continue the same way now!”
At the halfway point now through the 2023/24 campaign, Bayern finds itself still second in the table, this time to an enterprising Bayer Leverkusen side. Musiala may have some late season heroics to play once more.
