While it is perhaps a bad habit to be overly critical of a victory, Bayern Munich did not start off 2024 with a bang — even in a handy 3-0 home win over TSG Hoffenheim.
Franz Beckenbauer’s impact will never be forgotten
A touching moment for the legendary defender was a nice way to pay tribute to an absolute icon of the game. Beckenbauer’s impact on Bayern Munich, Germany, and the sport itself will never be forgotten. Ruhe in Frieden, Der Kaiser.
Manuel Neuer is the GOAT
It is so great to see Neuer back in net for Bayern Munich. It just does not get old seeing this guy make the kinds of saves he does. It will be a very sad day when he retires, but football fans need not be too worried about that day with the way he is playing right now. Neuer bailed out Bayern today more than the team would have liked to have been necessary.
Bayern were lucky to take all three points
It is almost a guarantee in recent years that Bayern will win when they play at home, but today was one of the times they probably did not deserve to. Hoffenheim caused lots of havoc and will regret not making more out of their chances. This changed though, after Bayern managed a second goal and Hoffenheim were punished with a red card.
Prime Jamal Musiala is back
Let’s admit it, Musiala hasn’t been quite the same since Germany were eliminated at the 2022 World Cup. Musiala is still one of the best young stars in the world and without a doubt last season’s title would not have been possible without him. However, Musiala has not quite elevated his game leaps and bounds beyond where it was in 2022. Perhaps 2024 is the year the German reaches the level of names like PSG’s Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, and others.
