Former Bayern Munich sporting director wants Bayern to focus on finding “optimal solutions” now

Give or take a month, which may or may not have been how long ago he said it...

Bayern Munich needs help at center-back and right-back. That was immediately obvious after the club sold Benjamin Pavard to Inter Milan last summer, yet every last minute move utterly collapsed. And it made the loan of Josip Stanišić, completed just about two weeks prior to Pavard’s sale, make really silly.

Just really, extraordinarily silly.

But Bayern cannot dwell on it and instead new sporting director Christoph Freund needs to look for solutions.

Former technical director Michael Reschke, who worked very closely with then sporting director Matthias Sammer, agrees with this state of mind. In a (sort of) recent interview, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, the former VFB Stuttgart sporting director was empathic about moving past the loan of Bayern’s former academy player: “Today they would be very happy if they had Stanišić. But that’s a thing of the past and it doesn’t help to think about it. It’s important to find optimal solutions.”

Moping doesn’t help. Being frustrated about failed deals doesn’t help. What makes Bayern the club it is not through never making mistakes and never failing but instead picking themselves up from a loss with unshakeable resolve and confidence (and maybe just a little bit of arrogance) to do better the next time.
