When news broke that Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier had arrived in Germany for his medical exam with Bayern Munich, it might have been met with mixed results from fans.

Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel, however, will be thrilled to get Dier if everything goes as planned.

“He’s a specialist at center-back. He has also played as a No. 6 in the Premier League, but not for a long time. We’re getting him for the center-back position, can play right or left centre-back as well as in back three,” said Tuchel (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We got him mainly so Leon Goretzka can be free to play in midfield and doesn’t have to switch to center-back anymore. Regarding other positions, we’ll see what happens.”

With Kim Min-jae off on international duty and Tarek Buchmann’s season decimated by injuries, Bayern Munich has not true center-backs complimenting Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt on its roster.

This move — at a minimum — gives Bayern Munich another body to help provide depth and versatility to the team.
