Bayern Munich’s search for center-back reinforcements is hitting a critical juncture. But FC Barcelona star Ronald Araújo — reportedly Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel’s preferred man — is deflecting all speculation.
Via @iMiaSanMia, the 24-year-old Uruguayan declined to answer a query about whether the Bavarian giants have inquired for his services.
“There’s always talk about me every transfer window, but my focus is only on doing my best for this club,” the Barça star is quoted as saying.
Bayern is already star-studded at the position group with a squad that features Kim Min-jae, Dayot Upamecano, and Matthijs de Ligt. However, Kim has been called up by former USMNT coach Jürgen Klinsmann to the Republic of Korea squad for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. And injuries had already forced Tuchel into creative adjustments — such as deploying midfielder Leon Goretzka in central defense — during the Hinrunde.
If the Rekordmeister cannot land Araújo this transfer window, they will likely still require reinforcements. Which leaves the question open: will Tuchel still pursue the apparent apple of his eye in the summer?
