City to challenge Bayern for Araújo (The Hard Tackle)

If Bayern Munich wants to acquire FC Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo during the summer, it will have to outbid Manchester City:

Manchester City will reportedly compete with Bayern Munich in the race to sign 24-year-old Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ronald Araujo is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Premier League champions have entered the market for another centre-back. And they have set their sights on the 24-year-old Barcelona defender, a target for Bayern Munich.

Interest from Manchester City would certainly be an ominous sign for Bayern Munich’s chances to land Araújo. Crazier things have happened (Harry Kane leaving England in favor of Bayern Munich comes to mind), but Pep Guardiola has a certain allure over players, Manchester City has boatloads of cash, and the Premier League is the world’s biggest platform for football.

Aside of all of that, Araújo has given no indication that he actually wants to leave FC Barcelona, either.

It might be an uphill battle for the Bavarians on this one.

Tuchel pushing Chalobah despite reluctance of bosses (TEAMtalk)

According to at least one report, Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel and his bosses are at odds over a potential acquisition of Chelsea FC defender Travoh Chalobah:

Bayern Munich are looking to bring in a new centre-back. They have made moves to sign Eric Dier from Tottenham, which has led to suggestions that a move for long-term target Chalobah is off the cards.

However, TEAMtalk sources state that this may not be the case.

Thomas Tuchel is a huge fan of his Chalobah, who he knows well from his time at Stamford Bridge, and is attempting to convince the Bayern board to bring in both him and Dier this window.

The Bayern Munich hierarchy are less keen than Tuchel but have not completely ruled out the possibility that a move to Germany happens for both Chalobah and Dier.

As previously revealed by TEAMtalk, another former Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho, has asked Roma chiefs to bring in Chalobah as he believes he can replicate the success of Tammy Abraham and Chris Smalling who have both flourished in Italy since moving from England.

Crystal Palace are also keeping an eye on the Blues defender’s situation but are holding off from making a bid due to their interest in Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

Ah...back to action.

Are you ready?

Dybala to London? (TuttoMercatoWeb via 90Min.com)

For years, AS Roma attacker Paulo Dybala was linked to Bayern Munich. Now, Dybala is available, but the interest from Bayern Munich is non-existent. Chelsea FC, though, would like to give Dybala a chance:

With his cut-price €12m (£10.3m) release clause now active, Chelsea are keen to lodge a bid to sign Roma forward Paulo Dybala.

Meanwhile, Fichajes is reporting that Chelsea has a tight window to get a deal done:

Chelsea have less than a week to trigger a €12m (£10m) release clause in the contract of Roma forward Paulo Dybala, with the Blues ‘closely studying’ his situation.

David on the move? (FootballTransfers)

Lille forward Jonathan David seems to always have his name bandied about in the transfer market. Now, Manchester United and Aston Villa are interested in the Canadian:

Manchester United and Aston Villa are very interested in signing Lille striker Jonathan David during the January transfer window, FootballTransfers can confirm.

Both clubs have been kept updated on the situation of the 23-year-old Canada international forward, who is a player who has been linked with a string of big clubs for several seasons.

David has made it clear that he is eager to move on from Lille and a deal could be struck in the weeks ahead with Man Utd and Villa, both of whom are in the market for a centre-forward with his qualities.

Bavarian Podcast Works — Flagship Show: Season 6, Episode 26 (Bavarian Football Works)

Bayern Munich had a tune-up this weekend and it did not, well, go so great.

In the wake of that uneven effort, the Bavarians are closely linked to Eric Dier, Nordi Mukiele, and Radu Drăgușin, while also seeing reports break that nearly everyone on the squad is going to be analyzed and scrutinized over the course of the second half of the season.

Is this normal...or is a powder keg brewing. Let’s discuss!

Here are the topics we will take on in this podcast:

  • Should Bayern Munich make a move for Dier?
  • What about Mukiele or Drăgușin? Would they be good fits for the Bavarians?
  • Who are the most likely candidates for Bayern Munich to move on from during the summer?
  • What we are looking most forward to in the second half of the season.

Barca wants Christensen gone (Sport via 90Min.com)

FC Barcelona would like to unload center-back Andreas Christensen as they are ready to move forward with Chadi Radi next season:

Barcelona are open to parting ways with centre-back Andreas Christensen, who is seen as expendable ahead of the imminent return of Chadi Riad from Real Betis.

Haaland’s release clauses explained (as via 90Min.om)

Erling Haaland’s contract with Manchester City features different release clauses that could make him available for a lot less than originally thought:

Erling Haaland’s contract with Manchester City includes different release clauses for teams in the Premier League and European clubs. For Real Madrid, Haaland would be available for “closer to €100m than €200m”.

Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Podcast: Season 3, Episode 26 (Bavarian Football Works)

Bayern Munich has returned to training, but somehow the transfer action has been hotter than what has been going on during the practice sessions.

Knowing that Bayern Munich is eager to spend some money and add a few players during this transfer window, the rumors are flowing. Let’s take a look at what we have on tap for this week’s episode:

  • Catching-up on some an older take to see how it is going.
  • A rundown of the rumor mill, including what we have heard about VfB Stuttgart’s Alexander Nübel and Serhou Guirassy, Chelsea FC’s Trevoh Chalobah, Fulham FC’s João Palhinha, and AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori.
  • The increasing likelihood that Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Frans Krätzig could leave on loan assignments.
  • Discussing the Bild report that Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Matthijs de Ligt and Alphonso Davies are being closely monitored and how that could mean bad things for their respective futures with the club.
  • Finally, we lighten it up with some thoughts on this season of Fargo and my progress working through the Marvel movies.

Magull leaving Frauen? (@soccerdonna)

Say it ain’t so…Lina Magull might be leaving Bayern Munich in favor of Inter Milan:

Neuhaus out at Gladbach? (@Plettigoal)

Once the toast of Europe and coveted by elite clubs like Bayern Munich and Liverpool FC, Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus is essentially an afterthought on his own squad.

That could change, however, as Neuhaus might leave Die Fohlen:

Many options for Florian #Neuhaus. He‘s on the verge to leave @borussia as revealed!

➡️ @sscnapoli have also inquired about him in the last days. About a transfer in winter ✔️

More options: Lazio Rom and FC Sevilla. Ao Tanaka, a serious candidate to replace him as also reported via @BILD_MGladbach. There is contact since the summer. Price: €2.5-3m.
