Jérôme Boateng not bitter after Bayern Munich rejection

The Bavarians opted not to move for their former defender.

Bayern Munich recently hosted former player Jérôme Boateng on their training grounds as they explored a move to re-sign the defender, who is also facing a retrial next year over allegations of assault of his former partner. That move never materialized, however, and Boateng was recently asked if he held it against his former club.

“On the contrary. I’m grateful that I was able to train and prove myself,” Boateng responded, as captured by kicker journalist Frank Linkesch (via @iMiaSanMia). “Maybe that will pay off for me in the future. But I can say that I would have liked to have done it. I see myself going abroad in the future after things didn’t work out with FC Bayern, preferably from the second half of the season onwards. Italy, Spain, I’m open to a lot of things.”

The 35-year-old German center-back is still currently a free agent.
