Will Alphonso Davies re-up with Bayern Munich?

As transfer rumors linking Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies to destination clubs like Liverpool FC, Real Madrid, and Manchester City persist, the Canadian star’s camp is working behind the scenes on a new deal with the Bavarians.

The talks, however, have not been all that fruitful and now we know why — at least that is what is being reported by Sport Bild’s Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Davies wants a “significantly higher” salary than the €12 million per year that he was initially offered:

Salary is the sticking point in contract talks with Alphonso Davies. At the beginning of the year, Hasan Salihamidžić had negotiated the terms of a new deal with Davies’ representatives — it was agreed the Canadian would earn around €12m/year in the future. After Salihamidžić’s dismissal, talks were put on hold for six months. Different terms are now being discussed — Davies’ camp is demanding a ‘significantly higher salary.’

While Bayern Munich can surely afford to go higher with Davies, it remains to be seen if the Canadian is just posturing for more money or if he intends on leaving and is biding his time. Either way, Bayern Munich fans are left in the middle of this tug o’ war hoping for a good outcome.

This report does seem to fly in the face of what Davies’ agent had to say just a few weeks ago, too. Clearly, this situation is far from over.
