Anyone else really missing Bayern Munich games?

Nübel being considered for permanent role at Bayern (@Plettigoal)

Has there ever been a more bizarre transfer than Alexander Nübel to Bayern Munich?

Jumping from Schalke 04 back in 2020, Nübel was expected to take over for an oft-injured Manuel Neuer, who was thought to be winding down his career. However, Neuer’s health steadily improved (sans that ill-fated ski trip last winter) and the veteran repeatedly proved that he had really not lost a step.

Of course, Neuer’s excellence put a major wrench in the timeline for a Nübel takeover. After loans with AS Monaco and VfB Stuttgart to prove his mettle, the 27-year-old has captured the imagination of the Bavarians once more:

It’s NOT 100 % ruled out that Alexander Nübel might extend his contract at FC Bayern beyond 2025 ✔️ It’s an idea from all parties involved …

➡️ Nübel impresses Bayern and he’s informed that the club consider him to succeed Neuer one day - as long as he can maintain his level!

If Neuer were to retire in 2025, currently, there are three top candidates: Nübel, Kobel & Maignan. Bayern also have high hopes for Peretz, who is expected to be loaned out in the summer.

VfB Stuttgart wants to keep Nübel, but — realistically — the German club will have a tough time competing financially if English clubs get involved in the bidding. As for Bayern Munich, nothing would be shocking, but Nübel seems completely averse to sharing a locker room with Neuer again and seems to want to move on.

Premier League teams want Tel (Bild)

Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel is reportedly drawing interest from several Premier League teams:

There is great interest! Mathys Tel (18) has been playing for FC Bayern since last summer and came from Stade Rennes for around 20 million euros. So far it has been a joker’s record for the 18-year-old. But this year has been very successful: Tel has 9 scorers in a total of 18 competitive games. These performances are now arousing the interest of several English clubs!

Premier League clubs want Mathys Tel!

Transfer expert Ekrem Konur writes on X (formerly Twitter) that several Premier League clubs want to prepare an offer for the France U-national player this winter. It is not clear from the reports which clubs are interested. However, it seems clear that FC Bayern does not want to give up its noble joker. Tel is under contract until 2027, is viewed extremely highly within the club and is also more than happy with the German record champions.

Tel recently shone with his performances under former world star Thierry Henry (46) at the French U21. France head coach Didier Deschamps (54) has also received praise in recent months: “He is very efficient in the missions he gets. He can be decisive every moment he comes into play. I hope that he (with the U21; editor) will get as much playing time as possible. We are watching him closely, but there are still some development steps he can go through.”

One thing is certain: Bayern would rather be active and strengthen themselves in the winter transfer window than give away players.

Did Simon turn down Bayern, United? (FourFourTwo)

When Bayern Munich was looking for a goalkeeper last summer, the club — allegedly — reached out Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon:

Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon has reportedly turned down moves to Manchester United and Bayern Munich. The Athletic Bilbao custodian, 26, has established himself as one of the best ‘keepers in Europe in recent years.

But, despite interest from around Europe and further afield – Saudi Pro League clubs have also been linked with the six-foot-three shot-stopper – it seems Simon is quite content with the Basque giants for the time being.

That is according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, who claim that Simon – who has won 38 caps for Spain – is keen to stay at ‘the club of his heart’.

Bavarian Podcast Works: Weekend Warm-up Podcast Season 3, Episode 21 (Bavarian Football Works)

It has been a bit of a crazy week for Bayern Munich.

There was a boring win, followed by a more boring draw, but there was a whole of news in between, so in short, we have plenty to discuss.

Let’s take a look at that is on tap for this episode:

  • Why is Bayern Munich struggling right now. Is it Thomas Tuchel’s fault? Are the players underperforming? Is the squad flawed? Maybe...maybe not, but there is some reason to think it is bound to look better soon.
  • Does this version of Bayern Munich have a poor mentality?
  • Bayern Munich has been closely linked to Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz and could be the leader in the clubhouse to land the star....but does it make sense? Is he worth it? Let’s discuss.

NUFC very serious about Guirassy (@cfbayern)

Newcastle United could be setting up a move for VfB Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy:

According to Molineux News, Newcastle United is just of one of several clubs (Arsenal FC, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United) trying to get the VfB Stuttgart star:

Wolves have reportedly been in contact with intermediaries about a possible move for red-hot Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy. 90min claimed recently that Wanderers are one of several clubs in the frame to sign the Guinear international, who has been superb so far this season over in Germany.

90min reported ahead of the weekend that Wolves have been ‘contacted by intermediaries regarding Guirassy’s situation’, along with other clubs such as Arsenal, Everton, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Guirassy’s camp believe all of these clubs have interest in the player, although there is nothing concrete at this stage. Guirassy certainly has admirers, but there is also doubt cast on him moving in the next transfer window due to AFCON in January, with Guirassy set to represent Guinea.

Sancho biding time amid possible changes at United (@Plettigoal)

Manchester United star Jadon Sancho is still in limbo with the club, but the former Borussia Dortmund star might not be eager to move given the state of flux that Manchester United is in as a club:

Jadon #Sancho, he‘s still leaning towards a transfer in winter but he also want to wait and see what happens inside the club (Owner etc.) / #MUFC

➡️ Understand there is no fixed price tag

➡️ A loan with an option to buy is still the most realistic scenario

➡️ The interest from Juventus is concrete as reported ✔️

Sancho, ready for a restart

However, Corriere dello Sport (via says that the Red Devils are ready to sell Sancho to Juventus:

Manchester United are prepared to sell Jadon Sancho to Juventus for just £26m and would even let midfielder Donny van de Beek move to Turin on a free loan in January to sweeten the deal.

Kane says Terry was best of the best (Chelsea News)

Bayern Munich star Harry Kane says Chelsea FC defender John Terry was the best defender that he has played against:

England striker Harry Kane is currently enjoying his life over in Germany after making the switch from The Premier League to Bundesliga this summer.

Kane left Tottenham after becoming a club legend there, and during his time at Spurs, he played in some huge games against Chelsea, with The Blues often managing to come out on top.

Kane played against some of Chelsea’s most successful sides of the recent past, and it is one player from one of those teams that Kane has named as the best defender he has ever played against.

The striker says Blues legend John Terry was a very intelligent and is the best defender he has ever played against, which is some compliment for the former Blues captain, leader, and legend!

Q: Best defender you’ve ever faced? (cited by Chels HQ).

Harry Kane: “I faced John Terry [at Chelsea] early in my career. He is, you know, the reason he is one of the best defenders in the world; really smart, really intelligent.”

Kane had some battles with Terry in the past as Terry’s career came to an end. I’m sure both players would love such a battle now as well!
