According to a report from Relevo (as captured and analyzed by Bild), Bayern Munich could be getting serious about a pursuit of Spanish right-back Arnau Martinez, who plays for Girona:

Does the solution to Bayern’s defensive woes come from Spain? According to “Relevo” in Spain, Bayern are keen on right-back Arnau Martínez Lopez (20). The Spaniard has also been discussed in the BILD podcast “Bayern-Insider.”

The right-back plays for FC Girona, who are sensationally at the top this season and are currently in second place in the Primera Division behind Real Madrid. He came to Girona from FC Barcelona’s youth ranks. Bayern scouts are said to have already observed Martinez at Girona games.

Because of the many defensive failures and the small squad, coach Thomas Tuchel (50) definitely wants reinforcements for the defense in the winter. Martinez would fit the profile perfectly: a right-back who can also play inside and even in midfield. Arnau would be an alternative to Barça star Ronald Araújo, who was recently linked to Bayern but now probably wants to extend his contract in Barcelona.

Arnau Martinez has a market value of 15 million, the transfer would be financially secure for Bayern. However: Bayer Leverkusen are also said to have Martinez in their sights and are looking for a replacement for Jeremie Frimpong (22) if he leaves the club. So will Bayern and Bayer not only be fighting over the trophy this year, but also over this top Spanish talent?

Could Martinez be the versatile defender that Bayern Munich desires for the January transfer window?
