Bayern Munich extending Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich means nothing for Alexander Nübel

He’s as good as gone

Recent news on the contract extension front is that Bayern Munich extended both Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich for another year until 2025. The longtime goalkeeper tandem will man the sticks for the next two years, but what does that mean for Alexander Nübel?

According to a report from Stuttgarter Nachrichten (via @iMiaSanMia_GER), the 27-year-old former Schalke goalkeeper will decide on his future in the spring. Nübel is also leaning towards leaving Bayern, with his belief that he will never play if Neuer is still there.

Alex is also not considering a contract extension until 2025 either which would give the Bavarians more time to decide if he will eventually take over from Neuer. VfB Stuttgart, the club that Nübel plays for now, rates him highly but the Swabians cannot afford to buy him just yet. Neuer is 99% sure that he can play until he is well past 40 years old, and Ulreich is content with being a back-up. Nübel might be too old by the time he’s due to succeed Neuer.

All of this doesn’t even include Daniel Peretz.
