Report: Bayern Munich consider Fulham FC midfielder João Palhinha “not a necessity” this winter

Is the courtship finally over?

Bayern Munich remained loyal to João Palhinha after he nearly moved to Munich at the end of the 2023 transfer window, but they have steadily distanced themselves from the Fulham FC midfielder. Now, it looks like the Bavarians are on the brink of ditching their Palhinha pursuit for good.

German news outlet Bild via Get German Football News reports that although Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel wants a CDM in January, the club is looking for a player who can cover defense and midfield as a secondary need. Raphaël Guerreiro returning from injury and being able to play in the middle is another reason why Palhinha is not as high a priority as he was a few months ago.

Bayern is also reluctant to pay the €65 million quoted by Fulham for the Portuguese international and with other options proving to be more feasible, the Palhinha saga is close to being put to bed.
