Former Bayern Munich assistant coach Dino Toppmöller thought his Eintracht Frankfurt side would have a difficult time against Bayern Munich.
The manager, however, was wrong as Die Adler spanked Bayern Munich 5-1.
For Toppmöller, it was a long-time coming — especially after Eintracht Frankfurt lost to FC Saarbrücken in the DFB-Pokal earlier this week.
“We demanded a reaction from the boys. I wouldn’t put it down to the last few weeks: we lost four games in a row and played really badly in the last two games. We talked about that too. And today we showed a reaction. We can correctly assess the defeats, but also the game today,” the manager said (as captured by Tz). “I’d put my hand in the fire for this team, they always give it their all. Of the 23 games we played, we went to the limit 21 times. I don’t doubt the mentality of the team.
“It was a great performance from the entire collective. I couldn’t promise the team a result today, especially with the opponent. But I could promise them: If we burn from the first minute, the chance of us winning the game increases.”
After the incredible victory for his side, Toppmöller also found a few moments to chat with Bayern Munich star Leroy Sané, one of the players he connected with during his time at Bayern Munich.
“I had a great relationship with him in Munich and a very high opinion of him. I just told him to keep it up,” said Toppmöller.
