Why did Thomas Tuchel bring a turtle plushy to Bayern Munich’s training session?

Not hard to put 2 and 2 together.

Thomas Tuchel is a bit of a weird character. Not just because he manages to get wins while playing uninspiring football, but his antics will certainly raise eyebrows. In the early days of his stint as Bayern Munich coach, he playfully kicked Leroy Sané in the bum (which probably lit a fire in the 27-year-old). Now, he goes and does this:

So, why did Tuchel decide that a turtle is so important that he just had to bring it to training? Well, think about it: who is the most high-profile reptilian in the world? No, not Toni Kroos, but rather his club who has been trying for ages to sign this turtle. You guessed it, it’s Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappé.

(If you want to read about the story of why Kylian gets called a turtle, read here and here)

FC Bayern World (the club’s flagship store) is literally close by, but the 50-year-old decided that Berni plushies were not going to cut it today. It’s just weird seeing a coach managing one of the biggest clubs in the world having a moment with a turtle plushy.

Regardless, everyone thinks that Tuchel is trying in his own strange way to lure the 25-year-old to Munich. Because come on, who would want to pass up the chance to sign Mbappé? With Real Madrid being erratically linked to the Frenchman, Bayern can just swoop in and hijack a deal even if there isn’t one in the first place.
