Risk vs. Reward: Bayern Munich has tough decisions to make, as Champions League earnings are on the line

Will Thomas Tuchel actually rest players?

Bayern Munich are officially through to the knockout stages of the Champions League after just four matches played; the Rekordmeister beat Galatasaray 2-1 at home while Manchester United fell on their face after losing 4-3 away to FC Copenhagen. With four wins from four, how much does Bayern get for each win?

A prize money of €2.8m is at stake for every win in the Champions League. Therefore, although guaranteed to win the group, there will be a mix of resting some players and seriousness going into Wednesday’s game against Copenhagen. Rotation is not expected to be too heavy.

Bayern are therefore sat on €11.2 million that could go as high as €16.8 million (a perfect group stage, which Bayern have done before). Considering that the Bavarians struggled in the opening games against United and Copenhagen, resting key players might prove to be a bit risky. Ultimately, it’s Thomas Tuchel’s call on who plays.
