In a rather boring affair, Bayern Munich secured three points by defeating FC Köln 1-0 tonight. Bayern dominated possession but Köln became the first Bundesliga opponent to hold Bayern under two goals this season. Bayern held a 21-6 shot advantage, however only five of Bayern’s shots were on target.
Although many scoring opportunities were squandered, Harry Kane viewed the glass as half full in his postgame interview (via @iMiaSanMia):
Harry Kane: "It was an important game for us today. Of course, the result may not look that great for some, but we did the job today. We could have scored three goals in the first half alone. Very good and important three points. The positive result was the most important today… pic.twitter.com/hYiM5vklTs— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) November 24, 2023

We had control of the game. We had a lot of chances to score and conceded very few chances. We would have liked to score a few more goals, but it doesn’t matter, we got the three points. It was a very important win after the international break.”
Kane hasn’t won a title since his U-17 youth days at England, but he clearly understands the value in ugly wins throughout the season. More importantly, this was Bayern’s third shutout in the past four games...something that Bayern hasn’t accomplished since October 2022.
Tired legs appeared to be the culprit in poor finishing from players like Leroy Sane, who just returned from a quick international break. Thomas Tuchel would be wise to give some youth players an opportunity in Bayern’s midweek Champions League clash vs FC Copenhagen, where the result is irrelevant because Bayern has already clinched first place in Group A.
