Thomas Tuchel on Thomas Müller’s future with Bayern Munich

Are we seeing the end of an era for Müller?

Thomas Müller has been playing at the top level ever since he broke into Bayern Munich’s team back in the late 2000s. Since then, he has climbed to the conversation of current best players after memorable performances at two World Cups and countless impressive seasons with the Bavarians.

Since then, he has fought hard to stay in the starting lineup for a number of different coaches in his never-ending battle to prove himself. At the end of his career, he will be remembered as a legend, and not just for Bayern Munich. However, he is struggling to keep a significant role in this Bayern team with the current performances of Sané and Musiala.

Tuchel on Thomas Müller: “We want him on the team. It’s clear that he wants to keep playing. Why shouldn’t he continue playing at the highest level? I see him very positively. He’s in great shape and everything is fine with him. Thomas is an icon for the club, a legend. He gets the maximum respect from us”

It is clear though that Tuchel still wants to keep the Raumdeuter in Munich. Was Tuchel just saying the minimum to avoid the topic further? Or does Tuchel have a true plan for the aging German? Tuchel knows the public backlash he would receive if he omitted Müller from the team, as he is a fan favorite and heavily associated with the image and soul of the club.

Tuchel seems to want to keep him around, but what kind of role he has is uncertain. Müller might finally get tired of sitting on the bench.
