Initial reactions and observations

  • Bayern struggled in the second half after PSG introduced Amalie Vangsgaard; however, PSG did not create too many clear cut chances.
  • That being said, Bayern should have scored a second considering their interplay in and around the box.
  • Bayern should have really had a penalty. The refereeing did not necessarily improve in the second half.
  • Bayern did well to hold on and see the lead over the line.

90 + 7’ - Full time whistle! Bayern beats PSG, 0 -1!

90’ - We are into seven minutes of stoppage time

87’ - Bayern bring on Tainara for the seemingly injured Jovana Damjanovic.

83’ - Bayern bring on Inès Belloumou for Katharina Naschenweng.

77’ - Substitutions!! Bayern bring on Lina Magull for Linda Dallmann! PSG bring on Ramona Bachmann for Lieke Martens

60’ - PSG bring on Laurina Fazer for Korbin Albert.

46’ - Second half gets underway! Schüller comes off for Lohmann!

Half-time reactions and observations

  • Bayern started a bit on the backfoot but grew into the game and took control after the first quarter of an hour.
  • Bayern pressed PSG into mistakes in midfield and outside the box. This feels like Bayern’s game to lose.
  • That being said, Bayern only capitalized on one great opportunity. Schüller had a great chance to add a second.
  • Bayern should have really had a penalty. While this adds to the argument that VAR is vital for the women’s game, it does not really take VAR to see that De Almeida had no intention of playing the ball.

45’ - Half time! Bayern leads 1-0!

41’ - VAR would be helpful right about now. De Almeida’s foul should have resulted in a penalty for Bayern.

26’- Schüller almost made it 2-0 after great work from Damjanovic!

21’ - GOAL! Magdalena Eriksson scores from a header in a crowded box from a set piece situation! Bayern lead 0-1!

7’- Almost an own goal by PSG there!

Kick off: And we are off!!!

Bayern Munich travel to France to continue their UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign against Paris Saint-Germain.

Last time out the Bavarians succumbed at the last to a tough 2-2 draw against AS Roma. Now Alexander Straus will hope his team is ready in the midst of a tough English week that included a 2-0 midweek win over Werder Bremen.

Three matches is not an easy slate to navigate in such a short amount of time, and Bayern will be pressed to rotate and keep their players fresh and injury-free on top of the competitive demands.
