In what was likely his last start for a long time, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Sven Ulreich went out on a high note as he led the Bavarians to a 3-1 victory over Galatasaray in the Champions League.
Ulreich, who will cede his starting role to longtime incumbent Manuel Neuer, turned in a fantastic effort. Ulreich had three saves, but kept his composure as he was under duress for long stretches of the match. If not for a Mauro Icardi penalty that was the result of a silly – and late – challenge from midfielder Joshua Kimmich, Ulreich would have kept a clean sheet.
“We’ve grown as a team. It was very intense on the pitch today. It’s important that we defy such circumstances together, which we did. Last season, I think we would’ve given away such games,” Ulreich told Sport1’s Kerry Hau (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Neuer is expected to take over on Saturday against SV Darmstadt 98, but manager Thomas Tuchel would not commit to that change just yet.
“I can’t say that at 100% yet. I have to wait and talk to him,” Tuchel said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
