Bayern Munich had a sensational but unfortunate deadline day at the close of the summer transfer window, missing out on all their targets on the final day. That has spurred speculation over whom the Bavarians might return for in January.
But although manager Thomas Tuchel finds himself short of defensive depth in recent weeks, it is unlikely that center-back target Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea FC will be among the winter arrivals, per a report from Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):
Bayern are unlikely to move for Trevoh Chalobah in January. The club’s bosses had already decided against signing the player on deadline day of the summer window, although Chelsea were willing to let him go on loan. Thomas Tuchel, meanwhile, would still like to sign the player and is still pushing for him to join.
The report places Tuchel at odds with the Bayern board again on this matter, and the manager’s apparent wish for a new defensive midfielder will also be in the spotlight. Bayern nearly signed Fulham’s João Palhinha on deadline day.
Chalobah plays right-back in addition to center-back. Bayern recently have had a rotating cast of injuries in their center-back trio of Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano, and Kim Min-jae, while right-back Noussair Mazraoui was also hurt during the October international break.
