Everyone is safe, but the experience must have been awful.

Update: 6:45AM EST

After a delay — and some breakfast — the German national team is back in the air and on the way to Germany:

It is unclear what caused a flight carrying the German national team — including several Bayern Munich players — to land in Edinburgh, Scotland, but there was “something with the plane” that cause a precautionary landing. Leon Goretzka, Niklas Süle Jamal Musiala, and Leroy Sane were allegedly part of the group on the flight.

Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry, however, chose to spend some extra time at the hotel in Reykjavik, Iceland to they could get some extra sleep before departing this morning:

As the report above states, the affected players are “in a good mood” and “having breakfast”, but this must have been a scary experience nonetheless.

The Premier league contingent of Chelsea FC’s Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, and Antonio Rüdiger, along with Manchester City’s Ilkay Gündogan and Arsenal FC’s Bernd Leno were also not on the affected flight (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

The ordeal will undoubtedly cause some delay in Goretzka, Süle, Musiala, and Sane returning to Munich, who have to be weary after a rigorous schedule and this situation. Hopefully the players can shake this off and rest of up for what looks to be another tough and physically demanding stretch of games.
