Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer just finished up his latest tour of duty with the German national team and the squad’s captain could not be happier about what he saw on the pitch.
“I liked it a lot,” Neuer said (as captured by Tz). “It was important that we set an example again. But we can’t set off fireworks on the pitch, either. But we took the duels. We are satisfied.”
Neuer has experience playing under Hansi Flick and can already see the impact of the new coaching staff.
“We have a new coaching team, a few young players have joined us. It is not so much that everything has changed overnight, but we have set a new trend. That’s how we want to continue,” said Neuer.
While some critics will say Germany did not exactly face a slate of juggernauts during this stretch of play, Neuer simply thought it was important that Die Mannschaft beat whoever was in front of them.
“These were opponents who tend not to play a role in a knockout round. But it was still important for us to send out a positive signal. Of course we want to become world champions,” Neuer said.
