Leon Goretzka reflects on decisive Germany win over Armenia

Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka played a leading role in helping Germany trounce Armenia 6-0 as he contributed two assists in a terrific all-around effort

“It was a completely different game today. The atmosphere was extraordinary, finally fans in the stadium again. We imagined the start under Hansi (Flick) to be like today. Today we implemented a lot of what we had planned,” said Goretzka. “Against Iceland we want to repeat the performance so that we can perform consistently at a high level again. We looked at a lot of beaming faces today. That’s what we want in soccer.”

One personal highlight for Goretzka was the atmosphere inside the stadium in Stuttgart.

“It’s like balm for the soul. Even after the game, we make the rounds, look at shining faces. That’s what soccer has to be about. That’s why I’m overjoyed,” Goretzka said.

Germany, though, will now move on to face Iceland on Wednesday.
