The DFB announced on Friday that left-back Robin Gosens had suffered a capsule injury in his left foot (Sport1). Gosens was injured late in Germany’s unspectacular 2-0 victory over Liechtenstein.
Head coach and former Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick told the media, “He had severe pain. He rolled his ankle a bit and landed on his foot with his full weight.”
It seems likely that Gosens (27), who plays for Atalanta Bergamo in Serie A, will miss Germany’s upcoming match against Armenia on Sunday and possibly also against Iceland on the following Tuesday.
In light of Germany’s lackluster performance, Gosen’s potential absence is worrying. Armenia current sits in first place in Group J for World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

For better or worse, Gosens was one of the busiest players on the pitch in a German lineup that leaned decidedly to the left, as he, Niklas Süle, and Joshua Kimmich circulated the ball among themselves.
