The second match-week in the Champions League is right around the corner and Bayern Munich are set to play Ukrainian Premier League title holders Dynamo Kyiv on Wednesday, September 29th. The second group stage match of the season is scheduled to be held at the Allianz Arena and will be officiated by Italian referee Marco Guida.
Wednesday’s game will be the Italian’s maiden rendezvous with Die Roten as the leading official. However, Guida was the UEFA-appointed VAR assistant for the Champions League finale between Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain in 2020.
Guida will be joined by a team of five Italian referees. Here’s the complete list of the officiating crew for this week’s clash: (via UEFA.com)
- Assistant referees: Filippo Meli, Giorgio Paretti
- Fourth official: Fabio Maresca
- Video Assistant Referee: Maurizio Mariani
- VAR assistant: Paolo Valeri
Word on the street is that Serie A fans are not entirely happy with Guida. Roma manager José Mourinho, most recently, hit out at the 40-year-old claiming that the officials “ruined” the Derby della Capitale (Lazio 3 – 2 Roma) on Sunday.
Guida has only officiated a total of just two Champions League matches till date – Tottenham Hotspur vs Red Star Belgrade (Group stage, 2019/2020) and Krasnodar vs Sevilla FC (Group stage, 2020/2021).
Let’s hope for fair refereeing in Munich this week!
