Former Bayern Munich star and treble winner Mario Gomez has nothing but praise for his ex-teammate Thomas Müller. In an interview given to Abendzeitung, Gomez discussed in detail why he is so fond of Der Raumdauter and compared him to Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp, mentioning that Müller could become a Kloppesque manager if he wishes to go down that road after his retirement.
Gomez is currently working for Amazon Prime Video as their Champions League expert. Like most Bayern fans, the Bavarian alumni was not a big fan of Niko Kovač’s treatment of Müller or the club’s reaction to the whole situation. He said, “He was almost never injured, was always there, even mentally, which is the hardest part. He had a weak phase under Niko Kovač. That was it. Otherwise, the boy has been playing at an absolutely world-class level for twelve years.”
With his 218th #FCBayern goal last night, @esmuellert_ has become our third highest-ever scorer!

“Thomas may not play elegantly, but he’s world class in his own way. There are few players in the world who are as valuable to their team as he is. Bayern appreciate that, too. However, I would have liked a little more support from the club when things weren’t going so well for him under Kovač”, added Gomez.
Everyone who knows Müller knows that he is a fighter and there is possibly nothing that can stop him from coming out all guns blazing when people slowly start to write him off. That’s one of the several things Gomez appreciates about the 32-year-old.
He commented, “In the end, everyone knew what they had in Thomas. It wouldn’t have been necessary for Hansi Flick to come in and straighten things out. Thomas has long since pulled himself out of that little hole. I feel a bit like his press spokesman right now. But I just like this guy! He’s outstanding in games – and in the interviews afterwards, too, of course.”
We like the guy, too, Mario! It’s impossible not to.
